I know a guy who drew comics but, as he says, he just couldn't handle all that anatomy. When he was young he swiped from other cartoonists, making enough changes so it wasn't too obvious. But he realized that this was not an honorable practice, so he started using photo reference. But he was aware that someone who takes a picture is also an artist, and it really isn't any better using their picture than swiping from another cartoonist. So he started taking his own photographs, bringing in people to "play characters" in his stories, which avoided the swiping and also gave him the exact poses he needed. Back then it was more of chore and more expensive, since you had to get all the pictures developed, but of course digital cameras and camera phones changed all that. When he was called on to draw something he couldn't draw from memory, he used references from magazines, but like you he would always change things around, using a different angle or change the details. And he eventually became good enough that he could go ahead without using photo reference for everything. But it was a much slower process, not something you could use for a monthly comic, at least not back in the day when comics were denser, so he specialized on special projects that came out on a slower schedule if any schedule at all.

Great video! I feel like so many people tell you to practice drawing more, but not so many of them show the process, it's really great that you took the time to explain that.

No two people see an image the same way. That's why I don't do drawings for people anymore, I got tired of hearing, " That's not the way it looks, it supposed to look like this.". I tried to explain that that was the way I saw it. They couldn't understand how I could possibly see it differently. I draw for myself now, if someone likes it okay, if not, they are free to pound sand.

Like others, I have also been following and subscribed to your channel. While it’s rewarding to watch you demonstrate your skill at drawing, I find your fast-motion movements distracting. The completion of the drawing is pleasant; still, in this case, and many others, you’re using “your” talent to demonstrate “your” ability and leave me in the dust as far as learning is concerned. I suggest you provide something as simple as a box and slowly demonstrate how to construct an image from it. Yes, I have watched the perspective series.
