There's no shame in a learning chef for using a recipe/cookbook to learn, it's no different for artists using references.
Never think its bad or okay to get put down for it. It's your expirence

As a newbie who started digital art this year, finding your tutorials has helped me SO much! They’re simple, yet well explained! They don’t drag on, and I even like the longer ones! You’re amazing!

the process of learning, from my experience is like this:

1) copy other works to a pixel-perfect resolution for a few times
2) copy others works but start to play with some elements like shapes, colors, moving stuff left and right, to fit stuff better for what *you* want
3) go rogue and make art on your own because now you have the freedom of knowledge and control over that knowledge to the point you can work independantly without reference.

I'm starting to get into digital arts and I've been absorbing the information from your videos better than the rest that I researched on Youtube. I really appreciate all the tutorials at no cost at all! All I'm really hoping for is a tutorial on how to draw the simple hairstyles from ponytail, straight hair, short hair and more. If anyone sees this comment as well, I'd like some recommendations on youtube videos or channels for tutorials on hair.

3:58 Bold of you to assume my high school art program taught us even half of these. I took all the courses my school offered that I could fit.
Teaching material must've improved since 2006.
So... I'll be stealing this chart - thanks a million! ^_^

I really liked this, there is nothing wrong with using references I think people who say there is confuse it with those that actually steal art, if you aren't redrawing or even just trying to take any creation and resell it or even just get attention for it, it's not theft. You can use a reference for even the smallest things like having trouble with shading or shaping something. Then there is those of us that have problems with creating a full-body just seeing how long or short something is can also be a reference. Don't take what isn't yours and say it is be inspired and you're doing it right.

i couldn't choose between working for school (11th grade) training drawing, and learning coding, so i'm working on a schedule, and your tutorials are awesome !

I’ve been doing digital art for the past year and a half and I always felt there was something off or not quiet there, always drawing characters in same poses and not knowing what colors to use, but I’ve been watching your videos and they’ve helped me improve so much, thank you for making these video to help rookies like me

This has helped me brighten my knowledge of using references, I would trace stuff (not to try and steal) but because I didnt know what else to do, but now I know to combine the pictures in a unique way so thanks

Went here because i was once afraid that i thought using a pose maker app and using drawing references i found on google are cheating and more like thought of myself as a thief idk.

Thanks for this video though, it's very helping and made me realized what an art thief really is or how to properly use references.

I've started away from YouTube for art because I feel most of it does not help at all but I like how this is applicable to both digital and traditional. Even though I don't always take something useful from videos, I think there's a lot of useful information in this that even I'm considering to share it to others and reference this video. Not a lot of YouTube art stuff feel this passionate

I love how real you are lmao. "idk this, so fuck that thing" and you don't pretend to know what you're talking about. <3 love it.

Sorry to all the fans, but I know you want to improve, so here are the reasons why your coffee splash looks bad: It basically all comes down to you treating it like a 2D shape instead of a 3D object. Color: Don't neglect the fact that this is a semitransparent object against a white background! The reason it's darker in some places and lighter in others is because the block of liquid coffee is thinner in some areas so more light passes through. Form: This is like a sheet or blanket of coffee being stretched apart by wind resistance and clumped together by surface tension as it flutters through the air. It's basically made of spheres. The swirly lines aren't just swirly lines. They're partially-disrupted laminar flow; 3D pillars of brown water with ripples running through them! Texture: This isn't "rubbery." Rubbery is more matte and opaque. If anything, water-based liquids are going to be super shiny, like glass or plastic. Recommendations: Study slow-motion video of liquid splashes. Double down on Form. 3D fluid simulations are great because they're simplified in a way that has nothing to do with 2D art theory. Good luck! I'm looking forward to seeing your follow-up! :)

There's a difference between copying a drawing and referencing a drawing, as well as tracing.

I'm always saying dumb stuff because i'm envious of people who are both youger and more talented than me at what i want to do, but honestly your tutorials are awsome, i'll keep being envious but that does not mean i can't be graceful.

I thank this guy that, instead of charging for the learning you are giving to us, he´s here on youtube giving that for free. We should all be thankful for you!!!!
