The new Metabo-HPT 12" sliding miter saw has fixed rails (zero clearance), dual bevel, a shadow line and sells on Amazon for $349 right now. They also have the same one in a 36v cordless version for $629 right now (allows the A/C adapter). It's a great saw!

I have a ridgid 10” dual bevel slider as my first one and it’s my most used tool! Absolutely love it!

Another thing to look for: how you verify cut position. Some have nothing and you just have to kind of guess and hope that the kerf is right where you want it. Some use lasers, but those require calibration to work right. The best use an LED light set that casts a shadow of the exact size and shape of the blade on the work piece with zero effort. DeWalt calls it Cutline, for example.

I would also add that you get a miter saw that can be accurately calibrated. Some saws are better at this than others

How do you prefer how it holds wood? Mine holds it horizontal but think I might like the vertical one, to hold wood down.

Festool definitely has the best miter saw👍🏼

Another thing is look at your table saw and get one with the same size blade then it's one size fits all

Advice: Do get one with soft start. The saw I have now does not have soft start. The sudden torque when it starts spinning, shifts the materials I’m cutting up to a millimeter or two. I have to clamp anything I cut - very annoying and time consuming.

I’m torn between the 10inch and the 12 inch. How much deflection we talking here. Does the better accuracy of the 10 inch saw outweigh the cutting capacity of the 12 inch saw?

I love my dewalt but I hate how the sliding railing stick out the back, love the design on festool

Does your Dewalt saw have all those features?

Is dual bevel or blade size more important? Cus there are 2 identical saws buy one is dual bevel and other is 12inch blade

I have a question... does even the most expensive miter saws still have deflection?

Okay if you're the last person I'm going to ask if I no longer have a miter saw and I'm in the market have gandered at the idea of a 10-in but my gut kind of tells me to go with a 12-in if that's the only miter saw that I'm going to have... What's that game plan sound like to you sir? Also I'm looking at those rigid and Delta saws with the robotic arms. Those are so sick I don't care if deflection is a very slight issue I'll try not to put any side to side pressure when using the saw problem "saww"lved.

Hey, Matt! I'm looking for a new miter saw and I seriously considered the Delta Cruzer or the Bosh with the similar robotic (not sure that is the correct terminology) arms. I know you had a Cruzer and wanted to pick your brain about your thoughts between the two. The Makita is completely out of my price range. I had been watching the Cruzer on Amazon before you posted the deal alert and I have found a refurbished Bosh that I am considering. Any way, let me know what you think. Thanks!

Something I just learned that NOBODY talks about. Get a saw with a two piece fence. One piece fences will bend, giving you non square cuts and it’s a pain the try and straighten it out. My rigid 12” bent so much that a straight edge across the full length of the fence left a quarter inch gap in the center off of straight. Not good.
