Hey guys, so in this video I show you how to fix a problem with OBS where you try to record with NVENC, OBS says that encoding is overloaded, and the video playback is super choppy and almost unwatchable.

Switching from MKV to MP4 literally made all the difference in the world for me. I was getting spikes on my GPU Copy %, sitting at 30% encoding usage getting Encoding Overloaded warnings, no matter which preset I chose, even at 6000kpbs CBR - the Auto-Config setting. I don't know if this is because MKV gets written twice for redundancy or something (it fails where MP4 doesn't) but I can't believe it was the difference between 12fps and 60fps recordings for me at basically ANY settings...

I know this is a bit different but I’m running a rx580 and I’m just getting encoding overloaded all the time idk if you know how to fix this

Is going from 1080 to 720 gonna be a huge difference? Also if I go from 60-30 FPS is that gonna be noticeable?

i record in 240 fps and my game is taking up 90%+ of my gpu power so how can i lower this? i cant limit my fps in game to 240fps and i have the game on med settings. is there a setting that can help me? because of the obs overload the video is shuttering.

I got this issue (obs recording overloaded) when I recording some games but when I check the recording it's look normal, no frame drops, no lag. When I lower the resolution or fps same, the issue pop-up (obs recording overloaded) but the recording is normal. Do you think this could be an obs bug?

mine still encoding loses 65-85 percent of frames even after this.
i have RTX 2080 Super and using NVENC and did what you did in vid encoding GPU usage goes to around 90 percent while recording i even made obs task realtime priority and i get 75 percent encoding frame loss
