The Department of Egyptian Art at the Metropolitan Museum's Egyptian Expedition carried out excavations at various sites in Egypt between 1906 and 1936. The Museum's archaeologists discovered several intact tombs that belonged to nonroyal people during these three decades while working in the cemeteries in western Thebes, which is located across the Nile River from the contemporary city of Luxor.

I'm an archaeologist and worked on burial sites. I was always uncomfortable cleaning mud from the remains. this is England. just because 'proper' people carry out the work it doesn't follow there is necessary respect. We took part in a dig at the medieval cathedral and found a plague pit with around 1100 disarticulated skeletons. they had just been thrown in during the plague.the church of England doesn't need permission off any authority as they are their own authority! leaving loads of churchyards basically unprotected.

I am not opposed to archeologists opening tombs as long as it is done with given permission by the proper authorities, research is properly monitored by certain authorities who are in charge of such excavations and exumations of remains and that the research is solely for scientic research that is handled respectfully.
