What The Hell Happened To P.T.?

A little over eight years ago, Gamescom was in full swing. It attracted over 335,000 attendees from 88 countries and featured a range of interesting games, from the unique Superhot to some future ones, including Bloodborne. Amid it all, however, was the buzz surrounding a unique little thing called P.T.

Developed by the unknown 7780s Studio, it actually went live on the PlayStation Store right before Gamescom on August 12th 2014. P.T. was short for “playable teaser” and greeted players with a seemingly innocuous title screen set in a mysterious forest. The “game” itself, however, took place in a strange hallway that continuously repeated itself, looping several times. It soon became apparent, however, that each loop presented something new, slowly unraveling in unique and horrifying ways.

Seriously, demo or not, P.T. is one of the finest horror games ever created. And it's criminal that Konami has tried to erase it. That game is a brilliant work of art that deserves to be played by anyone brave enough to take it on. I'd actually pay for it at this point.

This could've been the scariest experience that mankind ever known. Such a shame it never came to fruition.

This Teaser spawned a whole genre. There were so many games that seemed to ape the style of pt.

Hard to believe it was 8 years ago. I remember when it was released but had it on my old PS4, the whole internet got together to beat the obscure puzzles. It was scary as hell but so fun

Silent Hills disappeared into the fog with Norman, it's legend as a gaming experience, and in our own minds. This game has been playing us for nearly a decade, entering our minds and torturing us for years on end. Silent Hill will never truly die, because Silent Hill is within us all forever.

This game released in full would’ve given me nightmares for years and I’m angry about it still to this day. Just the playable teaser alone gave me nightmares for a month and some change, this had so much potential to flip the industry on its head and Konami, like a bunch of fucking idiots, canned it.

This was such a revolutionary game. I haven’t really experienced anything in the horror genre like it since. Hopefully one day.

what happened? Konami and Kojima got into a dispute and the rest is history. RIP 🪦 P.T.

My roommate at the time played this, and while i'd watched him play games before this one was different. It was just horrifying; the few loops where there is a constant sound of a baby crying made me physically uncomfortable in a way i've never felt since.

I don't scare easily, but P.T., to this day, still scare me. I can't say that feeling ever was present from full retai horror games. P.T. is very special

this teaser birthed so much. between the genre, and even just the feel of horror with playing this. it's truly so unfortunate they haven't/ won't make or release the rest. I guess at the very least, I'm grateful it paved the way for much more. this is such a beautiful game and I truly can't even imagine what Hideo had in store.

If you want a game close to this. You HAVE to play Visage. It's an absolutely terrifying game that deserves more exposure.

I would show all my friends P.T.
It was insane, and awesome.
Then I couldn't get it on my PS4 pro after upgrading. Was quite bummed out

This game was insane. At the time when this came out, my friend at the time and I would play it on a massive projector screen with loud ass surround sound that would actually shake the seats. I remember truly how terrifying it was

Imagine a demo so good that it inspires indie developers to make their own versions.

Brilliant work, Hideo 👏
