You said the water can act as both a base and an acid. When it acts as an acid, does it then become slightly more acidic (and vice versa when it acts as a base)? Or does it just act in the same way a base or acid would, without its pH changing?

Sorry to correct you but ....Water doesn’t necessary freeze at 0 deg C. 0 deg C is the thawing point of ice which is quite different. Due to the fact that ice always thaws at the same temperature where as water turns to ice at random temperatures It was thanks to Celsius who noticed this first and hense his name was given to the scale.
