How to Lubricate a Sliding Window

When picking out a Lubricate make sure it doesn't have OIL. NO WD-40 If you spray that on a vinyl window you going to create more of a problem cause it create a mud and makes the window harder to side. So what you should use is a "dry film lubricate" so it spray on wet and it dry behind itself creating a thin dry wax layer.

I searched for a video on lubricating a sliding HORIZONTAL window and this video was recommended for some reason. You're not using the horizontal obviously. This is a good video.
My problem is I've tried about 3 different kinds of silicone bases sprays and they don't work for these heavy horizontal sliders. I'm hoping to find a different lubricant that will work for my situation. Maybe I'll find something in a different video but in the meantime, maybe someone can suggest something.
Thanks

Nice video, I have MI windows recently installed and years later some are difficult going up and down the video that supposedly corrects the problem with no results. I'll try your method, thanks.

Thanks for the video. After reading the comments I don't know why anybody would want to help others by making a video. Some were just rude and you don't deserve that kind of feedback. Thanks for the video. I'm a big boy who can read a can of lube and ask at home Depot or Lowe's. Now I have a direction. Thanks again.

I have the newer double-hung windows. After a couple of decades they became hard to move up/down. As you show I relubed the mechanism, with aspray silicone lube. I recommend people do as I did. Lightly run your finger on the spiral aluminum piece. You'll feel the sticky residue and dirt. Now, take a cloth, with rubbing alcohol, on it. Use that to clean the old lube/dirt off. Just run the cloth up/down a few times. Be careful to use a couple of fingers to hold the bottom in place (or You'll have to reinstall/rewind it). You'll be able to feel when the piece is cleaned. "Now", you can spray the silicone lube. Note: if your windows are difficult to remove, from the frame, it's because the "aluminum hinge pins are sticking". I had a couple break while fixing my windows. I live near the Wallside factory, went there and they gave me some replacements. I don't know about other companies, but Wallside uses two different length pins. Take one with you so you get the correct length.

Thank you! We have a house full of hard to open and close windows. I've been trying to figure out what to do, and this video answered my questions quickly and clearly. I just ordered the lubricant you recommended on Amazon.

Thanks so much for posting this. I already have a new can of WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube with PTFE. The can states it is good for window tracks, but in the list of ingredients it includes petroleum distillates. Safe to use on: wood, paper, fabric, leather, metal, and most plastics (except clear polycarbonate and polystyrene). Do you think I can use this? If not, I will gladly buy the Sprayaway.

Thank you for the video. What do you think of "Liquid wrench spray silicon product", to use the same window to lubricate. Some one suggested this for me. Please let me know if this works also for the same window you used.

What about CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Lubricant? It sprays on wet and dries as well. Thanks for your video.

If someone has already sprayed WD40 is it safe to spray over it with the lubricant from the video or try and clean it off first?
