How New Vegas' Hardcore Mode Changed Fallout For Me

Fallout: New Vegas is better than Fallout 3. No question.

Yep, hardcore is highly recommended in New Vegas, though as someone who started with the first two Fallout games I have no idea what you are talking about when you say NV is worse than F3. In my opinion NV is miles better than Fallout 3 because the world it presents to you is more believeable and actually it fits into the world of Fallout 1 and 2 while F3 not so much. F3 is the place to have fun in the sandbox, NV is the place to be a bit more serious and make adult decisions. Just my 2 cents.

I've always found that NV was reminiscent of Fallout 1 and 2--cutscenes, choices coming back to bite you in the ass but help you at the same time, and so much lore and world-building. I love three, but New Vegas was bringing it back to the roots while embracing what made the transition to 3D in Fallout 3 so good.

I personally loved New Vegas from the start. Its story felt so much better than Fallout 3's, and as you said, more impactful. I feel like I was the the only one who loved FO:NV's environment, though. Aside from Vegas itself, it felt more like a wasteland to me. A barren expanse of terrain with little in sight just reinforced that feeling of being alone.

Playing it now in 2018, hardcore mode definitely heightens the experience. I remember always switching it off when I was younger, but when I recently did a Hardcore mode playthrough it definitely gave me a different perspective and made me adapt and change my usual gameplay style!

I really like it because I feel like it adds to that "wasteland" atmosphere, where everyone has to be basically savages and scavengers just to survive. It's also more realistic, and makes you feel like you just might be able to survive in real life if a situation exactly like this one were to occur. lol

So funny seeing people from 8 years ago liking f3 more than fnv. New Vegas is obviously better it was the same engine but obsidian just had to make a story themselves vs everything from the ground up for fallout 3

Harcore isn't hardcore really, it's just the way game should have been. I play on very hard/hardmode, and I don't feel much problems

There is a mod called Survivalist bunker, it's amazing for hardcore mode because of the sorting you need to do. It has an ammo box for every round, and a ready bag where you can extract the selected ammo that you stored in the ammo boxes. It makes life a lot easier. Plus it's a great player home.

so who else now hopes that they extend hardcore mode in FO4, maybe like more crafting or more complicated systems, like repairing needs more misc items than just another gun?
