I didn't use a drop of skincare until I hit menopause at 50 😳 I started with the Timeless B5 (aka: panthenol) along with their CoQ10 and CeraVe PM. They were so phenomenal that people at work began asking what I was doing to make my skin look so great. I now use other products, too, but those 2 serums will bring my skin back no matter what I throw at it. I love that MakePrem panthenol, too! Love your videos, Rob!

off topic, but use your sunscreen, vitamin c, antioxidants, peptides, etc on your neck too! same on your hands. some people can use their retinol on their neck and hands too depending on the formulation and their skin.

DAY OR NIGHT? Vitamin C: I know most skinfluencers and many estheticians and dermatologists say using it during the day, and it will help your sunscreen work better and fight off the free radicals. But, I saw one esthetician quote some studies and say that it might actually be more effective to use when you come back inside from being out in the sun. Like, you're just zapping away it's effectiveness by exposing it to so much light when you go out with it. Once, I put on a serum with a high concentration of ascorbic acid and went immediately outside in the bright sun and got terrible itching around parts of my face and wondered if that was because the ascorbic acid was oxidizing right there in the surface of my skin and causing irritation. I started wondering if it wasn't better to actually use vitamin C (at least ascorbic acid, the famously instable form) right before bedtime, when you're about to lay down in the dark. I'm going to try using it two nights a week like this, instead of my retinoids on those nights. Any thoughts?

I finally started a retinoid the other night! I bought some differin adapelene because it's non irritating and just as potent and so far so good. My new favorite cream is Avène Cicalfate, idk what it is about Avène and La Roche Posay but their products literally heal my skin barrier!!

Thanks for this video, Rob. Great info and commentary, as usual. For some of my favorites:

For antioxidants, I want to throw in DNA repair enzymes. I'm not sure what category they go in, but research has shown when people used products with these enzymes and then were exposed to the sun there was less UV damage to their skin than when not using these products. I can't explain all the mechanisms on how the enzymes and the actual DNA repair works, but here's two companies that make products with these enzymes: Photozyme and Priori.

I'm also into finding products with astaxanthin, lately. I love this serum by Skyn Iceland called Icelandic Youth Serum which has astaxanthin pretty high up on the ingredient list, but the website says it's currently out of stock, so if anyone has any suggestions for products with astaxanthin, I would much appreciate. I'm also just starting to experiment with oils in my skincare and I'm liking The Ordinary's rose hip seed oil, which I understand has several antioxidant properties.

For favorite vitamin Cs, when I want a fancy ascorbic acid I go for Kiehl's Powerful Strength Vitamin C Serum, which has 12.5 % ascorbic acid. I know it's expensive but it's moisturizing so I can get away with wearing it alone sometimes when I just want to let it sink into my skin for awhile, and there's so many sales at Kiehl's (like by one get one free) and at the other, big online stores where it is also sold. For the famous fat soluble Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, I'm liking The Ordinary's version of this in Vitamin F oil, and also the brand Acure has a nice serum with THD ascorbate and ferulic acid for not too much money (about $20 U.S.).

Finally for favorite sunscreens, this is a tinted mineral recommendation for makeup wearers who would like to find something they can use instead of foundation. I say this because it's silicone-y like a primer, and you need to get the right color match out of 6 shades: Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen. it's not the kind of tinted sunscreen that melts into your skin tone, it's the kind that sits on top like makeup But, that's what makes it wonderful for people who are trying to get away from using makeup - it's a little more lightweight than foundation but provides some good coverage for blemishes and uneven skin tone.

I agree with you list, but I always go back and forth with Vitamin C--like is it doing enough. I think it is, but its one of those where I'm not sure I'll notice the pay off until i've been using it for 10+years or something. So I guess I will just keep on using it LOL

Can you please make a video about Blue light and Infrared Rays!! Especially on whether you are supposed to reapply anything tinted or tinted sunscreen to get all day protection or if one layer protect for the entire day!!!

Fabulous as always!! Hmmm, well my top loves are sunscreen (can’t break down further than that lol, I go by reviews & trustworthy brands w good ratings & am in love with BoJs & several JP), then retinoids, antioxidant (doesn’t have to be C) & moisturizer (I guess just glycerin …)

You are the best! How to pronounce an ingredient is much less important than how to use it, right? I'm sure I say them ALL wrong 😎
