Age in reverse with these 5 Essential Skincare Ingredients

A common question Dr. Karam often hears is what active skincare ingredients are ESSENTIAL in an effective anti-aging skincare routine. Today, Dr. Karam is breaking down which skincare ingredients are absolutely necessary in your skincare routine, and what each ingredient does to keep your skin looking youthful, vibrant and healthy. As we get older, starting at the age of 27, our body begins to decrease collagen production. Collagen is what our skin is primarily made up of, keeping our skin looking supple, hydrated, and full. As collagen production decreases, our skin begins to look more and more deflated and dehydrated. In order to combat the effects of collagen reduction, we need to implement a skincare regimen that stimulates collagen production, absorbs and holds moisture, and prevents pigmentation. The five skincare ingredients Dr. Karam is sharing today are perfect for giving your skin that healthy, hydrated glow you want. In addition to these five ingredients, remember that proper cleansing and sun protection is absolutely necessary to ensure your skin remains youthful, and that it absorbs all the vitamins and minerals you're using.

If you are on a budget and still want to have good results:
Step 1 - Wash your face with a gentle but effective cleanser
Step 2 - Apply a serum (face and neck) that contains Ascorbic Acid (AM) and Retinol (PM). If you have sensitive skin you can try a derivative: MAP or SAP in place of Ascorbic Acid and Granactive Retinoid instead of Retinol
Step 3 - Cover your face and neck with a moisturizer containing Niacinamide (I use the 'Cerave Facial Lotion')
Step 4 (only AM) - Apply a SPF all over your face and neck (I use the 'Beauty of Joseon - Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics')

That should do the trick, but if you want to go to the next level:
1. After cleansing: apply a Toner that contains Hyaluronic Acid to boost hydration and the penetration of the active ingredients
2. (Only PM) Use an eye cream containing Retinal to reduce fine lines and boost collagen on the (stubborn) eye area (I use the 'Beauty of Joseon - Revive Eye Cream Ginseng + Retinal' and it is simply superb)
3. Apply an exfoliator (lightener) 2-3 times a week in place of Retinol or Vitamin C (I use Arbutin in conjunction with Mandelic, Azelaic and Kojic Acids)

Have a good skin :)

Most of my young life I never thought about my skin. I come from a time that women actually washed their faces with soap. You washed your face with soap like Ivory or Palmolive and then a very thin dab of Ponds cream on your face, that was it for me. I was born before WW2, from a different culture, unsophisticated and so, who knew? When I finally left home my roommate (who was in her 30's) introduced me to skin care. I am multiracial and the reason I never thought or worried about my skin. It was in my 40's that I seriously began to use products that were beneficial to my skin. I didn't see crepe skin until my seventies and I believe it has to do with my racial mixture of Caucasian, African and Native American. Now in my eighties and recently I'm beginning to see jowls. I also exercise and I know that helps, but this is different. After listening to your video I'm going to begin your regiment. I have never had any surgery, or botox. I'm going to do a before and after photo for the next year. I want to know if a woman at 87 can make changes to her appearance. The women on my mother's side of the family lived into their 90's and over 100 years of age. Hopefully I won't topple over and make it to not, c'est la vie!🌿

As a 63yr old 'skin-thusiast'....
I've been taking good care of my skin and using a fairly low-key regime for yrs and after all this time I've figured out this:
A simple cleanser and in the AM a 20% vit c serum and a spf50. I never go outside without wearing spf50 and in the PM a retinal serum and a peptide/ceramide moisturiser....
I may periodically use a chemical/manual exfoliant. Takes 10mins twice a day and doesn't cost a fortune. Many people have commentated on how good my skin looks for my age.. :)

Its very important to start your skin care regime while your young..as you age you can modify your creams..lotions and vitamin consumption to the condition of your skin need..One thing I've done since I was 12 is never go to bed without washing my face...unless I was in the hospital or sick...I'm 70 and my skin looks great..I'm just beginning to have find lines around my mouth..

Thank you Dr. Karam. I always learn so much from your videos. I know your life's work is face/neck focused but could you do a video on body skincare? Thanks so much! 💜🙏💜

I use vitamin c in the morning and retinol at night. Vitamin C also enhances sunscreen. I’ve been using all of these ingredients for many years. I’m in my 60’s, but most people guess me at 45. One other thing I would say is that I have chemical peels done a couple of times per year, this stimulates the collagen growth. Thank you Dr. Karam

When it's all said & done, your skin can be aging slower using these ingredients, but nothing changes the tissue & muscle UNDER the skin! Once they start sagging, the skin comes with it!

I’ve listened to many videos on retinols and this is the really best explanation. I really appreciate you explaining what’s happening on the cellular level.

my skincare routine is basic: foam cleanser, toner: rose water+vegetable glycerine, day moisturizer: castor oil+aloe vera+rose water, night cream: aloe vera+shea butter, sunscreen-- except for cleanser and sunscreen, the rest are DIY and never used any retinol. Combined with healthy diet and lifestyle, I have clear glowing skin without make up

I really loved watching you’re videos. I tried a lot of skin care almost Japan made coz I living here almost a years and it’s quietly good but I don’t really know the right steps how it really works to get more better on my skin. After I watched uR videos really helps a lot. Thanks again and can’t wait to see more of you’re videos🥰
