protecting your shadow colors

Just experienced this with one of my paintings... thanks for the advice Mark !

I'm trying to understand if you are saying that if you get milk into a shadow color, you can NOT fix that or you can? Can you let it dry and paint the shadow again to save the painting?

You mean by allaprima technique ? But you can fix that if you paint in layers ?

So the idea is get your colours right in the first place, put the down and leave them?

Mark calls it "milky", others call it "chalky", but it's about the same thing.
