All my grandfather's and my uncles served in the Vietnam War. And the Vietnam War was one of the most horrific wars imaginable. You still have Vietnam veterans that still have PTSD and nightmares still to this day.

Amazing story. To major John Duffy: Thank you for fighting freedom for my fatherland. As a younger generation, your heroism has touched my heart. May God bless you and uncle Mễ.

This is just so beautiful. I see not a single bit of animosity between them. Both looks like they were born friends.

Clarification:

Lt. Col Lê Văn Mế is a brave soldier and an outstanding Vietnamese military officer.

But I disagree with the statement that he twice received the Republic of Vietnam equivalent of the US Medal of Honor!
Please check with Wikipedia: the US Medal of Honor is the “single” highest award, and the highest Republic of Vietnam medal is the National Order (Bảo Quốc Huân Chương) but it has 5 levels. The highest award is 1st Level, and the only one ever received that is the General of the Army Lê Văn Ty (the only 5 star general in South Vietnam Arm Force)
Lt. Col Lê Văn Mễ received the National Order award twice means he received 5th and 4th Level of that award.
While I have high respect of Lt. Col Mễ, I think the aforementioned statement is wrong.
- one should not proclaim his award is highest, while it is actually it is 4th highest
- honor should not touted, honor should be worn and be recognized by others
While I respect him, and recognize his dedication, the truth must be spoken.
Respectfully

Nice to see more mainstream media acknowledgement of South Vietnamese veterans.
Often popular Vietnam War history depicts the war as us against "the Vietnamese" ignoring our antiCommunist South Vietnamese allies.

Did Hanoi Jane and her ilk opposing aid to South Vietnam say anything when our South Vietnamese allies were put into "re-education camps"?

Let's not forget that the Democrats were leading this war from Washington.

A failure of a war that caused the life of innocent souls. I have zero respect for those who fight for the wrong reasons.

It would be wise to appologize for killing so many innocent lives for the simple pleasure of a few persons ! So many children, women and men ! You were doing your Job ? I don’t think you can say that to the man in the mirror !
