Lots of people commenting “The US does it too, stop being hypocritical” seem to not actually understand how corrupt Russia is regarding judicial independence and fairness.

Actual Russians will acknowledge there’s a real difference between the courts in Russia, and the courts in the US.

Doesn’t mean the US Justice department doesn’t do shady stuff, but you wouldn’t get punished severely or at all with things in the US as you would in Russia, and depending on the crime accused (because you can be Putin’s political rival and jailed like Navalny), you could be given a harsh and excessive punishment deliberately because of who you are.

For those talking about hypocrisy, there is a massive difference if you ever find yourself a defendant in Russia or The United States.
Yes, the US justice system has its issues, but at least we can acknowledge that fact and try to change it. Please, try to go protest against the justice system in Russia and see what happens.

Hilarious how they make this seem like it's some foreign concept only used in other countries but it's been done many times over right here in the US.

When 500 000 of your troops on 800 military bases are occupying 130 countries is certainly not putting any political pressure on anyone around the world.
Carrying out coups and color revolutions is no pressure at all.
Imposing illegal sanctions on countries and stealing their assets and resources is law and order all the way.

WSJ, I just will know your explanation about legal system as a political weapon of your title. What do you mean about the meaning of legal system, it's so bias words if WSJ doesn't explain which the legal system and which political weapon is. And who is your interviewer? Does she have some qualification of law

Good reporting, terrible “creaky voice” interviewers at WSJ almost across the board. Speech classes used to be mandatory!

Another way to view these things is that Russia needed time after the collapse of the Soviet. Many elements of the KGB, such as Putin, were among the best people they had, and they were already organized, so this was arguably the best place from which to start to rebuild a strong Russia. Or did we desire a weak Russia?
It is difficult to understand why we seem unable to see much good or trustworthiness in the Russian people or their government. I think it is because they make a convenient enemy.
One is rather at a loss for words...
But now we are advised to prepare for a new era. There is cause to believe it will be something like the era of 1930-1940. That generation became known as The Great Generation.
I look forward to seeing you there...

It could not have been different in post-war Russia. But this is something vague in the minds of Americans and Anglo-Saxons, especially when the war was not on their territory and they have no idea of the losses on the Russian front and the cost of the Red Army.
Pearl Harbor, perhaps something you remember, and the response to the attack is still remembered. So justice has degrees and dimensions determined by geopolitics and the peculiarities of the ethnic group.
