PlayStation Removes Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement

PlayStation has decided to remove the PSN requirement to play Helldivers 2 on Steam. They will not be moving forward with the PSN Helldivers 2 requirements on Steam.

Original Story: The latest in the Helldivers 2 PSN link drama is that a PlayStation Helldivers 2 PSN account will be required for anyone playing on the steam platform. This was originally listed on the steam page as a requiremend, but the Helldivers 2 Steam PSN link is now going to be enforced. This PlayStation news has brought the ire of gamers everywhere.

Sony is not used to real negative feedback. Sony fans worship the brand and will let most things slip by. PC fans are different, they will burn their entire communities down haha.

They made a move and were *terrified* of the result. Arrowhead's mistake was owned up to... But Sony?
No... Sony simply got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, by a community that was both large and by nature organised independently, beyond game mechanics.
What is to stop them from doing this to other, smaller, less organised dev studios and communities? They *want* your data. They need it to impress investors with numbers, and sell to marketing companies for side profit. Think they won't be trying for it in other ways? On other games?

It's simple. If you want psn to be mandatory for steam users, psn should be available wherever steam is. Someone at Sony should have raised the question before they made that decision.

This was actually an issue caused by the Arrowhead CEO. The PS requirement was always there and he turned it off, left it two months, then said you have to account link after letting hundreds of thousands of people buy the game. He then gets people to slate his own game so Sony let him off.
