Euphemisms That Native Speakers Use All the Time

ABOUT THE LESSON 📚
Euphemisms are great. And let me tell you why. If you don't want to say something because it's too direct, rude, or even embarrassing, you should use a euphemism instead. They're more polite, pleasant, and even fun to say. Not to mention, native speakers use them all the time. So if you don't want to be jerk, then it's usually better to use a euphemism to get your point across.

Here's a list of the euphemisms...

1) to be let go (from a job)
2) to be between jobs
3) have to go number one
4) have to go number two
5) to do some business
6) powder one's nose
7) big-boned
8) love handles
9) make love
10) to lose one's lunch
11) not the sharpest tool in the shed
12) pass away
13) kick the bucket

I saw a guy say: "You're not ugly, you were just born on the wrong planet".

This was a f a n t a s t i c lesson, Wes... absolutely made my day!🌹 I was laughing out so loud, that my husband got curious, what I was doing (happens not too often). I love, love, love the English language for its euphemisms, they make conversation so much easier! Btw. your "make love" statement is really captivating... 😉
P.S. Please more of this kind. 🙏
P.P.S. I have to powder my nose now. 😊

in italian talking about the bathroom we say " l'atto piccolo o l'atto grande?" but only with very intimate people like relatives

Awesome video!! In France, instead of number 2, we have some very...colourful expressions like "to release the kraken" or "drop the kids at the pool" hahahahaha 😂😂

Another great and funny euphemism about going to the bathroom is “I have to see a man about a horse”.😂

Awesome explanations, especially giving that movie examples. Please, teach us more often with a context. It makes it so easier to learn and imprint the meaning. Great video once again. Thank you!

Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us. I am an English teacher here in Brazil and I could learn some of them I didn't know. Whenever I learn something new I immediately share with my students.
