I love how different he is from Casey. Van hates running and hates NYC but Casey loves NYC and running

Runners high for me is being in the moment, watching grass fly by and my body glide across the ground, gleefully just happy to be in a fast motion

Runners high is a real thing and literally becomes addictive. I went through a period where I decided to start working out and ran for 20 minutes on a treadmill every other day. It was excruciating the first few weeks but then it got easier all of a sudden. I could literally zone out while I was running and be completely somewhere else mentally and it felt absolutely amazing while running and even better after. I increased it to 40 mins, sometimes 60 and really started to make leaps and bounds and lost a ton of weight. I got super busy one week and couldn’t run for a few days and literally felt like I was having withdrawal. I’ve since fell of the wagon and I’m somewhat pudgy again but it was definitely an experience and one hell of a good feeling. It’s a wild place to be when you’re doing some super labor intense but you just can’t get enough of it. I wish I still had that motivation lol

I workout out of sheer misery of being fat, I get no satisfaction, never feel good, do it for vanity.

As a long distance runner (did 18 miles on Monday morning), my heart breaks that I cannot simply share it with others very often. The high starts before I begin and ends after I'm finished, is directly connected to your diet and it's one of the most wonderful, personal, mentally challenging, peaceful and rewarding things I know of in life.

Never got runners high either. With ruck, without ruck, trails, roads, running track… it always sucks. Love going to the gym but hate running.

I would just walk fast for 6 miles till I get close to been back and run the last 800 meters …and you will get the same benefits as the 4 mile run

Question. Have you ever considered that the ideas you are getting on your run ARE the runners high?

Runners high is like a flow state of sorts. Those ideas could be your brain functioning better than normal.

A lot of people describe a runners high (myself included) as an experience where the time and suffering and counting the miles melts away, and you feel like you can run forever.

You aren’t experiencing that, but perhaps it’s because your brain won’t let you, but you are still getting the residual effect (the ideas)?

To experience runners high you have to be a base level emotionally…. To feel the difference from normal to the point of enjoyment. …. If it is torture for you to runn is because your body is at a negative ….sore, inflamed, tire ..
Same thing as biking 🚴
Is enjoyable as a kid but horrible as an adult bc of weight knees exhaustion etc.
❤ good luck 🍀

The main form of runner's high I get is from sprinting. I can feel the rush of endorphins almost immediately after a full effort sprint. Running (keeping pace for many minutes or several miles) is generally tortuous for me, but I do feel a little better when I stop running. 😅 I can feel endorphins when I stop running, but I feel a lot more endorphins when I stop sprinting. I'm more or a "sprinter's" high kind of person. There might be other experiences that folks have related to running. These are the two I'm most familiar with.

I also enjoy heavy weightlifting for this reason. I experience practically no pain during the set. The heavy weightlifting set is over in about 1 minute so there's not much time to experience pain. During my rest periods, I can feel the endorphin dump. Bench press, especially does this to me. As Arnold Schwarzenegger can be roughly quoted, "Lifting feels like cumming." That's a bit of an exaggeration to me, but it does feel pretty great.

I run ultras. I usually don’t hit that “high” until around 30 miles in, and it only lasts around 5 miles. It comes and goes. U also hit really low lows.

Running mid-rainstorm is the best. Especially if no-one is around, but even if there is. Whether there is or isn't, it's just the best to stick out your arms like wings when a blast of wind hits you, and to smile like an idiot when a car drives by, hoping they'll drive through a puddle and splash you. They usually don't but it's nice to hope.
And then getting home and taking a warm shower, before settling down with a book or with family and a cup of something warm...

That's my runner's high.

At other times, I tell myself I'm just dancing down the road. And I am, by all means. It's got a rhythm; it's got a groove. I smile while I'm running, and sometimes, when I feel like I can't do it, I pretend something is chasing me, or that I'm running towards something important.
I'm running from a past towards a future that has a better me in it.

The runner's high isn't only about the chemicals in your brain. It's also about the philosophy.

Better person? Nope. Here's the kicker. I get runners high and have had jacked calves my whole life. Here is the kicker. You hate running I love running. You run and are happy and organized. I don't run I'm disorganized I'm stressed oh and I'm NOT running everyday like I should. Keep it up bro. Your hard work os impressive and motivating.
