when I was playing Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen as a kid, I always ran into this guy and fantasized about the possible things he could give out stickers for. I thought he would talk to me about shinies, or legendaries, or the lore of the region but I never really got too far with him. The actual answer is not so romantic, but it is really cool to me in a different way. They filled every corner of these beautiful games with things to do and people to congratulate you for it. Nobody LOVES the game enough to do 200 'elite 4' runs, that's just completionist stuff that you eventually finish because "well, I've gotten This far"

I did all of it on both firered and leafgreen. Used the money from beating the elite 4 to shiny hunt Abra from the game corner, then Clefairy when I got the shiny. Also used the hatched eggs and pokemon I bought to get all the gift eggs from pokemon box. Overall, not too bad of a grind. Easier than shiny hunting, especially since you know exactly when the "shiny" is going to come.

I got all three of these in my OG FireRed. Growing up in LA, ever since Gen 2, kids and teens would organize tournaments with the prizes being money, snacks and eggs of rare mons. So we bred a lot of moves IVs and shiny hunted, needed to raise all our mons to Level 100, and then we battled with the wireless adaptor

There were official events back then still, but a lot of that early history is lost after websites and counities died or suffered data loss (Pojo). Smogon properly began in Gen 3 but it's origins stretch back to Azure Heights in Gen 1 and the RBYbots/GSCbots on IRC. Serebii was around even back then but multiple forum changes lost a lot. Etc. It was a fun time

Oh god I would not want to hatch 300 eggs pre-magma armor ½ hatch distance. And you have to travel to four island to get the egg, but it's so easier to hatch them in Kanto because of the loop in the center of the reigon

LeafGreen was my first game. And I plan to 100% my current save. Another fun fact about Four Island is that Loreleis house will have more plush after every 25 Hall of Fame. Capping at 200

Feels nostalgic man back in Highschool after I put pikachu and raichu in the daycare I got a random egg and did not know that breeding was a mechanic in the game and by the time I interacted every npc this specific npc just handed over a sticker for hatching an egg which was another surprise. Good times
