A variety of foods, spices, and nutrients have been touted as GLP-1 boosters, including berberine, a component of barberries, but do they work?

Thanks for watching. I hope you’ll join in the evidence-based nutrition revolution!

True nature's Ozempic is BEANS! I add it to my oatmeal (white beans) in the morning and im not hungry for 8 hours or more. So much so, that I now only eat twice a day. And of course the second meal always has beans as well! Cheap, delicious and no side effects and if you're vegan it's a great way to make sure you're eating enough protein.

Berberine reduced my cholesterol and made me lose weight. I observed the cholesterol lowering effects on other family members. My dad replaced his Metformin with Berberine as it was easier on the kidneys for his diabetes and kidney disease

Does this contradict the information about berberine and barberries from the book How Not to Diet? I've been reading that book and I seem to remember information that appears to contradict this video. Please help me understand, thank you!

Those darn petri dishes! And rats! They keep trying to fool us into thinking we're just like them! 😤

Berberine has profound effects on multiple metabolic pathways in cancer cells as well, so it's much more than a simple weight loss aid.

A good brand of Berberine has been amazing for me with PCOS weight loss.

Its underlying anti-CVD mechanisms are currently attracting interest, and its pharmacological actions, such as antioxidation, regulation of neurotransmitters and enzymes, and cholesterol-lowering effects, have been substantiated. Recent studies found that berberine could inhibit both the proliferation and apoptosis of VSMCs induced by mechanical stretch stress simultaneously, which suggests that berberine might be an excellent drug to treat atherosclerosis. This review will focus on the recent progress of the effect of berberine on vascular cells, especially VSMCs, to provide important data and a new perspective for the application of berberine in anti-atherosclerosis.
Keywords: berberine, atherosclerosis, endothelial cell, vascular smooth muscle cell, inflammatory cell, vascular stem cell

Does anyone have a source for organic barberries?

I’d have to evaluate the studies myself as the most important part has been left out…dosage.

I found 2 things that work like Ozempic, that my friends also tried and found they work to reduce appetite thus weight loss. 1 eat a whole fruit one half hour before meals. 2. Use Allulose in your coffee or tea works as well. It binds to the Glp1 receptor site just like Ozempic but is all natural. I lost 100 lbs.

I'm calling it right now: it's going to be turmeric/black pepper, and fiber-rich whole foods in general.

Takeaway: NO, Berberine is NOT Nature's Ozempic!, but stay tuned as the next video, Greger is gong to tell what is "Nature's Ozempic"!

Does it cause such stomach distress that an unprecedented 30% of users have to quit it to stop the pain? Does it cause stomach paralysis to hundreds of thousands of people? Does it particularly render your digestive system so unable to process protein that you have to eat so little of it that you lose all your muscle? If the answer to all that is “yes”, then it is nature’s Ozempic.

Given all the weird and nasty side effects of GLP-1 drugs, it seems to me that the easy way out is to consume a fiber-rich Mediterranean/DASH/MIND diet. (The whole foods plant-based diet advocated on this channel is a subset of that.)

So why isn't a sensible and healthy diet being showered with attention?

👍 Whole food plant based for the environment and health; vegan for the victims!

Everybody's physiology is a little different. So of course different supplements will have different effects on different people. I can drop my blood sugar by 30 points by simply chewing on a couple of cloves on an empty stomach. Intermittent fasting is also a good way to control your blood sugar. Some people use cinnamon as well.
