i owned the a73 but traded it in for the A7r3. Menu issues are minor. When you own the camera, you learn the settings you need and there are several buttons to store alternative settings for quick implementation. The A7R3 has everything I need and the A74 doesn't offer a compelling reason to upgrade. But I might consider the A7r5 when it's price drops next year.

Crazy to think I've had this camera for 5 years now. It was my first serious camera and as I've added lenses and techniques, I still feel like there is a lot to still learn. For less than 1, 300 USD now? Pair this with one of the light primes or even a 2nd hand travel zoom like the 24-105 and you'd have a kit that would still easily make publishable photos for the next 5 years.

Bought my a7iii in February of 2019. I haven’t looked back. It’s been a basically perfect camera and I can’t say I’ve ever had an issue with it. I’ve done plenty of professional work on both the video and photo side of it, and it’s been amazing. It’s for sure not perfect, but my plan is to grab the mark V when it comes out in supposedly 2025. Still, the a7IV does make me ever so slightly jealous haha 😂

Still got and use the A7III several times a week. I don't feel a need to upgrade, as to pictures are still impressive.

I really missed my Sony A7R III which I had back in 2018… So I have literally just bought a brand new Sony A7R III (A) in Dec 2023, on sale at Amazon for £600 (GBP) less than an A7IV.

I don’t really shoot video and don’t want 61MP, so for my needs it’s still the sweet spot in the Sony range.
42MP is perfect, has a tilting screen (which has been upgraded) and the sensor still ranks higher with DxO Mark than any full frame camera released since - including Sony A7RV & A1, Canon R5, Nikon Z8/Z9 etc etc.

The 3.69 EVF is still used in a lot of current cameras, and the AF still performs brilliantly.
The revised A7RIII A is also manufactured in Thailand, not China like the original… Which I like, for what it’s worth.

The user interface isn’t great compared to newer models but I’ve never had an issue with it.

The point is, we all love the insane new tech and features but we have to be honest about what we ‘need’, and most of us who don’t shoot video or hardcore sports and wildlife, just don’t need the latest features.
I’d rather spend that extra money on glass… Which I did!

Actually I'm going to buy A7III and this video + all your old ones about A7III helped me a lot to give me a better vision to finalize my decision! Really appreciated Dan! Good luck with your photography adventure!

Luca Del Vigo showed us awesome video footages of what the Sony A7III is capable of. As i am completely new to cameras and stuff, i just bought it yesterday and i cant wait to shoot my first scenes. "Blue Hours" or "The ghost of blank canvas" are just stunning! Thanks for the video! :)

3 years ago I got my first full frame camera, a sony a7r2. 42mpx amazing for photography, But I started to notice that I was a hybrid shooter and decide to upgrade to a a73 last year.

I don't regret my choice, sure the a74 looks amazing, but my budget only allowed me to buy the a73, and in 2024, if you do photography in general and social media content like reels for real estate, restaurants, hotels, lifestyle or even social events. Is a fantastic camera. If you need 4k60 or you are into bigger productions I'd say condier the a7s3 or fx line. But if you are planning to get the a73 nearly mid 2024, you won't regret your choice.

Brilliant review of this subject! This is such an understated review, no drama, nothing fancy, but man have you hit the nail on the head?! This is me all over, and I’m betting that’s NOT just me.

The a7iii is still my backup camera on my wedding shots. perfect! and as a "cheap" entry camera it is worth every penny now!

I recently added a A7 III with 1500 shots in mint condition for less then half of what it originally costs, i plan on using it for landscape photography as i have other cameras for wildlife and travel photography.

Thank you so much!!!! I have scoured the realm of the internet for the answers you provided in this video. I am currently between buying the R8 and A7iii as my first camera for video.

i remember when the A7III was first announced - it was truly groundbreaking for a camera manufacturer to come out with something that was so packed with features and capabilities at an incredible price point of $2K! people's jaws dropped at the presentation...and i think its introduction was what ultimately compelled Nikon and Canon to switch gears and fully dive seriously into mirrorless in order to stay relevant. i still shoot with the A7III today ;)

I bought this camera in June 2020 to replace my then-9 year old camera (Nikon D7000). Ever since I got the A7III my image quality improved massively compared to my old camera and lenses (especially when I had the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 which was a huge night and day improvement over their 17-50mm 2.8 for Nikon) which led to a couple of magazine inserts and more people reaching out to work with me. I also started doing more events leading to a few gigs and looking now in 2024, the A7III was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made, because it advanced my photography to a whole new level and, even though I don’t do as much video, I have filmed some video with the A7III and it blows away the quality of the D7000 (along with having IBIS for smooth handling).

I’m still using the A7III and I’m hoping to get a second camera body so that the A7III becomes a B-cam to the future A-cam I plan on having.

Right now, the a7iii is worth it! It's on fire sale on amazon for $1, 250 usd. That's the lowest i have ever seen it go so Im guessing used market value would be $1, 000 usd. You can use that extra $800 saving to get a sigma or tamron zoom lens. A7iii is still a worthy camera to get even today as it holds up very well. The video aspect would be its biggest downfall but if you dont ever plan to shoot videos with it, a7iii is the perfect mirrorless photography camera. Wish it was this cheap back in 2019 when I bought 2 of my a7iii!!!

Why not. I still have the A7rii and they still works great. For still and slow moving subject at least. Image quality in general hvnt reallly change much over the last 10 years. Of course. If you mention fps, buffer, af speed then yea. Older camera cant compete with todays camera.

I’m looking to buy my first quality camera mainly for video. Specifically, travel YouTube content and am torn between the Sony a7iii and the Fuji film X-T3. I like the look Fuji film look but have heard that the A7ii is a better camera. Thoughts?

I just bought the Canon R8 and pair it with a EF 24-105 F4L using the EF/RF adaptor. My son is a musician and performs regularly on weekend evenings. I bought the R8 as an upgrade to my RP for better dynamic range since it's dark most of the time when he plays and they use very little stage lighting. I"m still in my return period. Do you think I'd be better off with the A7III and pairing it with the Tamron 28-75 2.8? I'm a hobbyist, so there's no way I can justify buying any 2.8 RF glass.
