How to teach your kid to skate | How to Glide

In this video, we get the kids gliding! We'll start by teaching them how to "duck walk" and progressively get them walking faster and faster. The duck walk naturally promotes gliding and true skating form. Once we have mastered the duck walk, we will introduce 3 standard glide positions (basic glide-in balance position, half sit glide-touching knees, and full sit glide-touching toes). Incorporating all three basic glide positions into your child's skating curriculum is important to continue the development of their balance skills and well as their coordination and range of motion while skating. As always, we will go over how to have some fun with this new skill by walking through an engaging circuit idea.

Remember, the more fun your child is having, the longer you can keep them out there with you on the ice.

Happy skating!
