I find it a bit rich Eric complaining about Harvard while suppressing Timothy Nguyen's rebuttal of his Geometric Unity theory.

“We must admit we are not seekers of truth, but humans.” Well-put.

I’m so glad you interviewed Frenkel. His contributions expanded our conception of mathematical proof. I’m sure this video is a snippet from a longer interview. I’ll look for it because I would love to hear more about his discoveries and career.

Programming has started my interest in maths. It used to be torture but now I am nothing but interested.

He didn’t talk about the drama at all…

Wow! i was so impressed with the eager in his eyes when I was watching his Numberphile video on Riemann hypothesis. Good to see him on your podcast. Thank you!

I was literally warned by a friend who is a professor NOT to apply for my Master's/PhD simply because I have already done the research and have written a thesis.
In no uncertain terms he said they will steal it and pass it off as their work and NOT even let me into the program...apparently this happens regularly.

“We are not 100% seekers of truth, we are human beings”. That’s wisdom right there. Too many very intelligent people fall into the trap of thinking they’re superior because of their intelligence. That way evil lies…

If Edward ever decided on a second career he’d be a fantastic diplomat. Bless Lex, he’s a true friend to Eric. He went above and beyond trying to center Eric in the conversation though Edward, very diplomatically, was having none of it.

"they have friends" ... damn were the standards that low for mathematicians haha

It’s crazy to see this man on a podcast now a days remember him from the explaining -(1/12) video on numberphile

I can't get enough Lex! Are you still doing the coffee shop meets?

Eric is disliked because he is trying to reinvent the current common belief or major beliefs amongst the physics community. Problem is his theory that he pitched to the public on April fools day hilarious as that is can't be proven or disproven so the people of academia are like wtf eric why are you shaving against the grain? Probably because he wants to be remembered as a great who discovered something useful but he hasn't

The clips title and the conversation doesn't add up. 🙃

Eric is a very intelligent, endearing and interesting guy. But he’s also a complete snake oil salesman. He deliberately complicates already complex issues. Instead of attempting to communicate science to most people in a way that is most accessible he deliberately attempts to obfuscate. To compound that fact, the moment he is ever confronted by someone who is equally educated in the fields in which he talks most regularly about they often come away from the conversation either baffled or thinking the guy is a complete crack pot. Not in a “he’s a next level genius who thinks so differently and out of the box” type way…more like…this guy has taken way too many drugs and has lost any sense of rational objectivity…..or…which is most likely…..the guy is on the grift and is selling snake oil to an otherwise naive/ignorant following.

I'm glad that i'm not the only weirdo who coped with reality by hiding in the math department where things made sense
Then in an effort to become more comfortable with things that made less sense... went to grad school for statistics

He doesn't really talk about Eric's experience and the whole story though... 😅
