I mean these essays aren't really bad, at the end of the day you're writing the essay to express yourself and show what kind of person you are so the college knows if you're the kind of person they want at your school, and preferably you should be applying to schools that appeal to your personality. If hurting yourself before a big game is a defining part of your life that sticks with you, write about it. Make it personal, try to express it in ways that break free from the norm and show that yeah you might fit into a grouping but you're still uniquely you

In my essay I wrote "we're like a shirt". It is still considered the best argument in the history of the program (highschool philosophy program at a university).

Personally met with the guy who looks over the personal profiles at the school I went to. It’s a pretty competitive business program and the “grieved athlete” is arguably the best thing you can write about according to him. As long as you write about how it’s changed your perspective going forward then it’s a must do move imo
