Trying Out the Milwaukee M18 Cordless Cable Stripper Kit

preview_player
Показать описание
Seriously good tool that makes light work of stripping cable insulation. The kit covers eleven cable sizes and additional bushing kits are available. The quick change bushings can be swapped in seconds yet lock in very securely. The tool itself is extremely well made and easy to handle. Its relative compactness makes it easier to use in tight spaces. Find it on the Home Depot website by searching for this unique reference number, 311195014.

To all the people saying knife? Yes, we understand a knife can do this too. Its how most people do it. For us folks in colder states, when it gets cold out it takes more time with a knife and on top of that you have the risk of injuring yourself with the knife when you can’t feel your hands. Knives are also harder to use when gloves are on. On top of that the faster you get done the faster you can get out of the cold. I was recently terminating RTUs while it was 30 degrees out felt like 15 with wind chill probably even colder. Had gloves, fleece lined pants and my big carhartt on. Was warm, let me tell you if i were to take off my gloves to strip 9 RTUs with a knife which would of taken significantly longer than using the companies cable stripper my hands would be purple by the time i’m done. This is not only a more productive way but its a way to keep yourself safe from the harsh elements. As blue collar workers we expect to endure harsh elements doesnt mean we like go and should do so because our dignity will be hurt if we don’t use a knife to strip cable. Same reason i use my bandsaw to cut wires down instead of my cable cutters. It’s easier, less strenuous on my body and takes less time meaning i can get out of the heat or cold faster. Work smarter not harder. On top of that it makes side jobs faster too.

I've been out of the electrical game for 10 years, now with all these new tools coming in, everything just seems soo easy.

Great labour and time saving tools. They are definitely tempting but a lot of money for me. If you can afford them, then worth buying. Thanks for the video.

Damn. I'm a contractor for the federal government and we are replacing old K rated power transformers from 30 to 225 kva with green ones. Stripping and cutting those old secondary parallel feeders up to 600 mcm is a real pain in the butt, especially after they have been in service for 30-40 years (stiff as hell). These tools would make my life so much easier. I'll have to send this video to my boss.

I have the Klein hand version of this, which works just as good. It's a cheap tool but you'd obviously have to use your hands to twist around rather than letting the tool do all the work. I guess if you do a ton of large gauge wire stripping then this tool is a game changer. Lets say you're doing a ground up building from scratch and you have 50 stories to build out. This tool is where it's at for a job like that. If you work in a service shop that does smaller jobs, this tool is probably overkill and won't be used much at all. That's why I have the cheaper hand version that takes up zero space in my van. So great tool, just comes down to what type of work you're doing. For me it's not justified to buy it, but I can definitely appreciate its existence.

OK, so after some research I was able to find out from Milwaukee that this stripper actually uses the same exact dies as its' competitors. So you can buy the bare tool then buy the die set from another company that does make the dies down to #6. This is what I plan to do then buy a Milwaukee packout case with foam insert to have a custom setup that best suits my requirements.

If you take the depth gauge out will it just continuously strip long strands of wire for scrap purposes?

Does make easy work of a normally laborious and frustrating task! I am curios if you could take the depth device off the back and feed cable through continuously?

Does this work with shielded cable or would it damach the shield?

The only drawback to the kits is the die don't start until 1/0, it should start at #6 or #4.

Can this strip 300mm aluminium cable. If it does I could stop using my Boddington stripper.
