Constantine the Great is famous for not only being a ‘great’ emperor, but for also being the first to convert to Christianity. However, the historical record is pretty confusing, as while the emperor certainly appealed to Christians, he never fully let go of Paganism. Fascinating story; regardless of Constantine's alterations to early Christianity, it's hard to imagine Christianity becoming a widespread world religion without his support or without the embrace of the Roman Empire for that matter. Even though Constantine did not make Christianity the official religion of Rome, he set the tone of tolerance to Christianity

Fascinating. The decline of the Roman Empire in 3rd and 4th Centuries was inevitable but still surprising. The rise of Christianity continues to astound me — far from inevitable.

John Wesley had a strong opinion that Constantine deeply corrupted the church. In his sermon “Of Former Times, ” Mr. Wesley said, “Constantine’s calling himself a Christian, and pouring that flood of wealth and honour on the Christian Church, the Clergy in particular, was productive of more evil to the Church than all the ten persecutions put together.” As a result, he believed, from that time “the Church and State, the kingdoms of Christ and of the world, were so strangely and unnaturally blended together, Christianity and Heathenism were so thoroughly incorporated with each other, that they will hardly ever be divided till Christ comes to reign upon earth.”

Constantine used Christianity to stitch together a broken empire. The arch celebrating this victory that handed him the entire empire of Rome, by way of the so-called vision of the Chi-Ro--that arch that was built to parade that doesn't have ONE Christian symbol on it, not EVEN the Chi-Ro. It does however contain Mithraic imagery all over it. His minion Eusebius made sure that the records would gaslight the Christians. Even still, ONLY the Rome-friendly Christian groups were invited to Nicaea where they sold Christianity to Rome for the "potage" of exiting the sabbath for the Roman day of worship of Sunday and transforming Passover into the Rome pagan Easter (Oestre - fertility goddess in the Roman pantheon).
