2020-06-17 F-150 BMS Reset

You cannot just change a battery any more. Now you have to reset the computerized charger or it will not charge and possibly damage the new battery. Ford wants 45min of labor for this. Does it really take 45min? Let's find out...

Note: I did connect to my pickup before filming to test the link cable before filming. In this instance it took about one minute to detect all of the computers on the vehicle network. When I recorded, it found those settings and allowed me to use them. It saved about 45sec.

Since people have asked, here are links to the hardware devices and software you need to do this. You only need one of the hardware pieces. If your laptop has Bluetooth I highly recommend the Bluetooth adapter, not the wired one!

Just did it again. Sams Duracell died after 2yr 7 mo. Got a free replacement. only paid 3 fee. Used forscan to reset battery mgt. monitor. This second one good till end for first batts warranty. Either way come out ahead on the deal. About 2 years ago most places wanted about $80 to just reset the BMT (dealer and mom and pop shops). Sams does it too but during that time it was COVID time and they were practically shutdown for service. This time I just did install myself at home. Ford wanted almost 700$ to replace an actuator motor on my focus. Claimed they need to remove transmission. I started looking into it myself. Come to find out you don’t even have to remove the trans. The actuators are external. 60$ a piece of Amazon for the motors and literally 10 mins to change them out. So 120$ and maybe 30 mins total time and I replaced them myself. Don’t get me wrong I like ford but nowadays it’s common to find techs at the dealership that just don’t care about you or your car at all. I’m sure there are still good mechanics working for ford but I don’t have good luck finding them lol only folk that don’t care and wanna charge you a small fortune. Very helpful video I’m getting forscan now to reset my battery after changing it and now car says battery low check handbook lol. My focus has been a headache to say the least

im finding the BMS is too stupid to keep my Northstar AGM Group 94R SOC above 12.7 volts even though i edited body control module to "Large AGM" waste of a large battery

I changed out my battery in my 2016 f150. Didn't know about the BMS. Just read my owners manual, says it resets itself after leaving vehicle off for 8 hours to relearn battery state of charge. I've been driving it a week and do not notice any issues. Should I be concerned?
