The man is not eloquent. He is SINCERE. He pauses to struggle to find the most honest word and he waits until he's got it. He is also caught between what he knows to be true while still being part of this family. It takes time to accept that a family member is dangerous and to develop the courage to say so. And the pressure to shut up is incredible. This is the same reason that so many people abused in their families won't admit it or ask for help.
