Fred Trump III: “I’m Concerned About This Coming Election. It’s Going To Get Very Nasty”

Fred Trump III is the nephew of former President Donald Trump and author of a new memoir about his family entitled “All In the Family: The Trumps and How We Got To Be This Way.” He says that he wrote the book in part to advocate for people with severe developmental disabilities like his adult son, William, but his story also offers some new – sometimes startling – anecdotes about his uncle over the years. He joins me to talk about it.

Mary has every right to tell her story because it's hers. The same goes for Fred. He's not as good a communicator as Mary.
We also have plenty of insight into Donald since we are aware.

I hope Fred is successful in improving the lot of the disabled.

I devoted 29 years working with kids with disabilities & their families - Why? because I had been so inspired by my cousin with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. It was knowing her and seeing her amazing presence as we grew up together that taught me what I needed to know about life, humans and diversity. Thanks Katie, for featuring Fred III and his son here. His dignity and your care made this a beautiful interview in spite of the horrific behavior of his uncle Donald.

He is far too forgiving. I could not imagine ever speaking to someone again who told me I should just let my kid die because he was disabled and couldn't recognize me.

I read Mary's book a few years ago and found it full of personal family stories that shed a lot of light. Fred is only 2 years older. I wondered why he said He had personal experiences with donny and Mary didn't. Strange. He shouldn't downplay Mary's book or input to the Trump story.

Fred I truly respect you coming forward now. As for your sister Mary I have high respect for her telling the truth, fighting the fight that was for your benefit also. She hasn't wavered and doesn't try to excuse any of the horrible effects your Uncle has caused for his entire life. Trump didn't change when he got in the White House (maybe to you) but listen to your own words.... how he treated your father, how he dealt with your son's condition from day one, stealing the inheritance that was suppose to be for you & Mary. Then let alone everyone along his way from his wives, his kids, employees, contractors, he screwed over anyone and everyone. Then cheating on taxes, insurance, LLCs to move money through, etc. He has been a very bad person all along. So maybe YOU had some positive interactions but what he did to Your Dad, Your Sister, Your Son alone would make most people never give him a chance to be in your life. I don't mean for this to be taken in a hateful way, but I think as long as you got things you wanted from him you pushed those evil things aside. (Actually makes me sad, especially when you said that if that devil got back in the White House you would go)😢😢😢😢😢😢 Again because that event would be more important to you than saying I will never be involved with someone so cruel. Believe me Family isn't always thicker than water. REALITY...TRUMP DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU, YOUR SON OR ANYONE ELSE BUT

Thank you, Fred, but be kind to your sister!

Very good interview and I love that Fred is addressing the need for more adult programs for people over 21 with multiple challenges. Praying that this will help families who are in need of such programs and the very real need for funding .

I was brought to tears by this. What a wonderful man and a heartfelt story. Donald Trump is inhumane, and he was raised to be that way. Donalds brother rejected the cult of the family and he suffered for that. He was the scapegoat. Many people have this experience in toxic families, and it's extremely painful and heartbreaking. Fred is too nice about all this. But imagine having someone as aggressive as Donald in the family. It makes people afraid and it makes them step back and watch every word spoken to avoid the vicious retaliation. I'm praying for Fred and his family and for Mary Trump too .

Would be nice if Fred Iii acknowledged the profound significance of his sister’s courage and commitment to our democracy when “outing” the Trump family dysfunction. Mary Trump provided a nuanced view based on her professional acumen - as a psychologist. Too bad Fred III is not embracing his sister, instead of promoting himself as the best intentioned “ crusader”—- narcissism runs deep in the Trump family. 🤔

It saddens me that this guy is so hypocritical about Mary's book. She had every right to publish it. Just bc it was inconvenient for him then doesn't mean it was wrong.

I’m sorry but your sister is STILL very supportive of you, your wife & children regardless of your relationship with her. Your summation of her book is unfair.

I am so glad this person is finally describing his and his families struggles with a disability and how his uncle is cruel a..hole, however, he needs to support his sister Mary's platform she is not the family a...hole.

I'm convinced...of what has been publicly presented of that family, Mary is the one with the brains.

Mary taped a very classy support of Fred’s story on her Network. Worth watching

"Trickle down cruelty" is an excellent description of what the MAGA movement is based on

I find this guy strangely unsettling. He seems deeply torn between family loyalty and willingness to see them for who they are/were.

Thank you Fred for allowing Katie interview you. The humanization of your uncle is necessary for everybody and listening to the warning you give.

Thank you, Katie. The story of how William was treated by Trump is heartbreaking, but the way he's talking about his sister Mary is disturbing. He needs to do better. And seeming to hold out hope trump could do the right thing is just delusional. Leaves me feeling unsettled.
