It's recommended to save at least 15% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 15% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

Totally agree regarding setting a budget - I never budget, but I save and invest at least 60% of my monthly salary as soon as it comes in and do the other things. I don't like the restrictive feeling of a budget and have done just fine.

Personally I use dollars but not USD and I don’t mind you speaking pounds. It’s your currency and people should just apply it to their currency. For instance the maths is the same 10+10=20 regardless of currency.

I recently got another job and decided I have to get my finances together this year. I put money away for emergencies and the next month my guinea pig needed an emergency vet appointment. I’m so glad I had the money.

In two months, I will be debt-free. I plan to save $150 a month for the long haul. I pay every cent extra to my bills for the next coming month. I am almost done with my three main bills. I still add a little to my savings.

Budgeting is not how to save money, it is how to spend money. One of those expenditures would be savings (assuming you do not have debt that needs to be cleared). I know budgeting can be very helpful in spending your money on your high priorities (both needs and wants), but only if you budget the money you actually have. Projections are just that, projections.

The one thing that has made a difference to me is creating sinking funds. So much easier to do now banks like Kroo and Monzo have pots to split savings into sections

I curtail purchases, just stop buying. Fear of homelessness is real.
Even with food, I have became picky. Bake from scratch, eat fruits, vegetables, seafood, a bit of chicken, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt.

Love the fact that £500 can accrue so much interest. I'm of an age where I'm trying to put as much as I can into my pension and I'm paying two extra AVCs as I only have 7 more years to retirement and unfortunately didn't consider this as a priority until a couple of years ago but I've also managed to invest another £100 a month as well for the last couple of years and its averaging between 7 & 8% so far. It's scary when the rates go down but so far I'm holding my nerve and long-term it seems to be paying off.

Do you have any low income/disability income videos? Your advice is very helpful and I’m happy to say I’m doing these things already, but now that I’m disabled, every penny needs to be stretched 20 different ways. Advice would be helpful!
