How can I tell if I have gingivitis or periodontitis (gum disease)? - Dr. Chandan Mahesh
Показать описание
Gingivitis, as the word says “gingiva” is gum and “itis” is inflammation. Inflammation of the gums is nothing but gingivitis where anyone who is not visiting the dentist, the plaque accumulation will cause inflammation of the gums. the simple brushing techniques whatever the patient is following will not be sufficient for the plaque or the calculus that is adherent to the tooth to get the plaque and the calculus that is adhered behind the tooth. So it lead to inflammation of the gums or gingivitis or the gum bleeding if this is untreated for years, it leads to gum bleeding or periodontitis or the gum infection or t he gum and the bone infections. Together we call it as periodontitis. A person comes with a shaking tooth or a severely bleeding gums and he gets confused if he is suffering for gingivitis or periodontitis. If it is a simple gum bleeding with no missing tooth in his mouth or no halitosis or no shaking tooth or missed out tooth which he had , it is simple gingivitis. We can treat it with deep cleaning or scaling. It is done in 15 to 20 minutes of time. If a person visits us with bleeding as well as bad breath or halitosis , it is mentioned as periodontitis or bone infection. This periodontitis is a secondary cause of gingivitis untreated where the tissue will bleed as well as the bone will deplete in this level because of the inflammation or the for getting body invasion sticking to the tooth, the bone that sticks to the teeth slides down leading to the gum getting inflamed as well as the food debris getting inside and finally ending of the tooth or mobility of the tooth ends up with an extaraction with the dentist. So in the initial stages if the gingivitis is taken care, then the periodontal issue should not be arising with the patient as long a s he is immunocompromised. Something like HIV or TB or anything like diabetes related issue. So gingivitis is much simple to teat than periodontitis. can be cured, but it needs surgical intervention like root planning or flap surgery elevating the flap or the lost bone structure can be restored if the body can absorb or receive it back. So gum infection or a gingivitis is reversible, or periodontitis is irreversible it can be treated under dentists advice and surgical intervention.
