The asymmetry of natural curls are part of their beauty. People think symmetry and neatness is tantamount to beauty but that comes from people that don’t understand that aesthetics don’t follow rules.

As a black person with 4c hair this is so relatable. Many would call that a twist out but I am more interested in focusing on trying to enhance my natural curls (that are coils) versus making “synthetic” ones

Oh yesss! Thank you, this needs to be said more! As a pro curl specialist I can't even begin to tell how many people come in doing waay too much of what won't work for them because they get stuck in trying what worked for others instead of seeking out individualized expert recommendations. Yes there's value in us all sharing & learning from each other- trying to extract all the specifics on one's own though is typically not the most cost or time effective way though!

Slay. It's so hard to take care of our hair, especially if you grow up in a home without someone to teach how to properly take care of it. I struggled for years. My hair would get matted every month, and my mom would just aggressively unbrush it, barely wet, and it would rip out my hair. Not to mention the rude remarks that straight hair kids at school would make. I hated my curls for years, and that's why it's also kinda frustrating seeing how curly hair is suddenly so desired and a trend. We gotta spread better curl care info yall

Girl I’m moroccan living in Canada and KNEW NOTHING about taking care of hair I started doing the exact same thing in middle school. In grade 11 I finally learned how to take care of my hair. This is so dang relatable

I love seeing other races embrace their curly hair. I have had friends who had tight curly hair and felt the need to permanently straighten it. I had no idea until thru showed me pics that they had naturally curly hair. Black ancestry is in most people dna and it’s amazing.

i put mine in braids bcuz it helps them stay untangled while i sleep, then i take them out in the morning and do finger curls or leave it how it is, i love my hair.

my mom had curly hair and for a lot of her life she wore a bun in her hair so i never really got to see her curly hair, only in pictures from when she was younger, until recently she started embracing her curly hair and i think that’s beautiful

Love your hair and totally get it. Used to work at a curly hair salon and learned a lot of what influencers were saying wasn’t always truth. Curly hair stylists and stylists in general really take it seriously and deserve way more recognition.

Hell yeah! That’s the beauty of a braid out, baby. I usually do a bunch of tiny twists (not the rope braids since they are too hard to pull apart) and it really keeps the curls nice and uniform around my head ❤

If you have 2A hair this works really well. A natural 2A is really soft even after the curly girl routine. Try to follow the general wave width of your hair while braiding
