i think the scalpel units disappeared is because megatron didn't want to show Sentinel Prime his weakness for his partner to take advantage of. this can be backed up by him showing his subordinates the units fixing him as they posed no treat

Question: How did Mudflap survive Devastator?

Theory: When Mudflap hit Devastator’s gears in his throat, he got stuck, making Devastator stop his vortex and explaining why he coughed, he choked on Mudflap. When Devastator stopped, Mudflap’s leg got stuck, since the scene looks like his leg touched first. So, Mudflap took his leg out and went all alien on Devastator face, ripping out of it. That is how Mudflap survived Devastator.
