That's a tragedy. A lot of people deal with mental illness in the city and they need help.

When you advance on a cop with a knife you will be shot and that officer is within his rights. That said they were fully aware they were dealing with a mental health case in advance, why was appropriate resources and numbers not deployed. Where were the likes of beanbags and why were they not deployed earlier, once he is advancing that officer had no choice. What happened to the time 6 foot shields would be used by multiple officers to bring a person with a knife to the ground. I dont believe this officer is at fault, I believe the department is at fault for not having or deploying the proper resources.

NYPD Police Officer was up against an individual with a lethal weapon. That individual's own family feared him, they were afraid for their lives. So, what is the Police Officer supposed to do? Police Officer was completely justified in shooting that individual.

So... if I understand this... the father called the police. His 42 year old son had a knife and I guess the cops should have shot the knife out of his hand. I wonder if the knife guy had a criminal record? I wonder if the neighbors would have been so "understanding" if they'd been slashed.
