Respect for putting Mario U so high. Even on Wii U, Luigi U alone became my favourite ever, and I've been playing since getting an NES with Mario & Duck Hunt for my birthday as a kid. It's definitely very derivative overall, but it just nails the formula so tightly.

I'll say this I love the fact that you had Super Mario Land 2 on this list. I probably would include this game as an honorable mention, Donkey Kong. While not a Mario game by title, its plot would set the standard for most Super Mario games included on this list. It also introduced Mario, as a result. When I was given my Gameboy as a kid, I was also given two games; they were Super Mario Land 2 and Donkey Kong.

I honestly don't understand why so many people love Super Mario 64 so much, other than happy childhood memories. I could agree it's better than Super Mario Sunshine, but all subsequent 3D Mario games surpassed it by a lot.

Having said that, my all-time favorite Super Mario game is New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. 👍

Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite Mario game so I was surprised it was not on the list. Glad you guys mentioned it though. It's a great game

I know it's not a popular opinion, but personally Mario Bros 2 is up there for me. After 3 that was my second most played Mario game growing up and I still hold it in high regard

I'm glad you gave New U Deluxe some love. I too love that game. It is underappreciated, I think, because it came at the wrong time. People wanted a big sandbox 3D Mario game, a successor to Mario 64, and they were disappointed with another game in the "new" Super Mario Bros. series. But since we've had our big 3D Mario game in Odyssey, if you can just appreciate New U for what it is, really well-designed sidescrolling Mario levels, then you will grow to love it.
