I always wash mine after each pull (Flair Pro 2) with a dishwasher scrub and soap, dried with a powerful battery operated air duster. It is enough for me because when I dunk it in my monthly Cafiza soak, it is still quite clean. Using ultrasonic cleaner, however, is quite another story altogether.

If you're into espresso enough to own a puck screen, you should also own a tub of Cafiza.

There are single layer screens with micro holes that prevent grounds from going up for those who don’t know. Since it’s not layered with mesh screens you can just rinse off the grounds with tap water and since it’s thinner it virtually takes no heat from your brewing water compared to a thick meshed puck screen. I think normcore and sworks design sell them. A bit pricey but well worth it considering every cup I start with is free from old grounds.

If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, it will be even faster (though there is more setup). It can clean almost anything to perfection, so I highly recommend it.

All puck screens are two-ply. What is the substance between them that hold them together? Aluminum?

Looks like you haven't washed it with just water for a year.
I do clean my screen regularly, it never looks quite that bad.

Any suggestions for the alternative of that cleaning agent? Will baking soda and lemon work?

Yes. Imagine the espresso machines at your local coffee shop. At my work my shop we’re told to clean them at the end of the night, but I usually have the baristas clean them at the end of their shifts and, if possible, some time in between the shift, after rushes.

The water that came out by cleaning it's not disgusting, it's simply American coffee.

Your honor. I submit to the court that if the gunk were indred going into my coffee then I'd be able to clean it out by merely running my coffee machine. I'd have no need for this 'cleaning powder'.
