An ongoing battle between a group of tenants and a landlord in New Haven continued on Wednesday after several tenants came home to a sudden eviction notice on Saturday.

The landlord, Shmuel Aizenberg, was cited for numerous code violations by the city.

"It’s an abuse of power. It’s an unbalance of power between tenants and landlords in the state," said CT Tenants Union Vice President Luke Melonakos-Harrison.

If the condition of the property are so bad and mice eat your children then why the hell are you fighting to stay there? 🤷🏾‍♂️

Thats the risk you run when renting. The property don't belong to you but you want to tell the owners how much to charge and what they can and can not do with their property.

Things are backwards these days. Landlords have to work for 6 months to evict squatters, and these people want to dictate to their landlords what the terms are...I say, if you don't like the terms, then move out! Happy trails...😎

Just get some roommates or boarders or lodgers to live with you. Get your brother or sister or cousin to move in with you.

Get off those video games, get a job, and pay your bills. That moretoreum wasnt an excuse to NEVER pay. Many of those owners almost lost properties because of it. Time to pay!

Should’ve got a better job so you could’ve bought a house you do not own that property and are subject to eviction

So the tenants are paying their rents?

Two problems here.

The first problem is that the ownership of the property is in the hands of a Orthodox cult member who is a known slumlord. It’s not too difficult to re-search the ownership of a property these days as all of it is public record. I highly suggest that anybody, regardless of your income bracket do so before you rent someplace.

Second is why were the specific people targeted with the eviction and not everybody? There’s never any investigation by the news media on the background of the protesters. Are these quality tenants that have always paid their rent on time and never done anything to invalidate their lease? Or are these people who haven’t paid rent in three years? Also, what is the rent that these people are paying now? Is it super way below market rate now? Are these low income apartments and these people are all section 8 and they’ve just decided not to continue the section 8 program. There’s so many details that are left out and each incident is so different. It would be really nice if instead of doing a 22nd spot they could do a little bit more in-depth reporting such laziness with our news.

Section 8 is the reason rents are so high. Section 8 will be the ruin of the working class.
