Tried Linux Mint once and never went back. Better than Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Slackware & Arch for normal users. The OS is complete with hardware drivers and app packages, easy to setup and use, practical & stable. In India, several schools have migrated from Windows to Linux OS and their choice is always Linux Mint!

Linux Mint allowed me to install the Wi-Fi driver from the USB thumb drive when I installed on my MacBook pro. Fedora couldn't do it. Mint is magical on Mac. I'm dual booting. When necessary I use Adobe software on the mac. But by default the computer boots to Linux if I don't use the boot menu. So grateful to team Mint I'll probably donate soon.

I have problem with screen fluckering in linux mint and other X11 DE's. LMDE showing me some "error (bug)..." while booting... On my laptop the best working distro is Ubuntu with wayland. It work so good. Also in mint you can't use fractional scalling without problems. But you can change fonts scalling and icons. Today Ubuntu is not really worst than mint. It's much more modern desktop. For laptop with 15' screen I recommend Ubuntu, for desktop with 18-20+' monitor Mint or Kubuntu, Debian KDE or LMDE.

Which Linux distro/desktop clipboard behavior is as consistent as on Windows?

Primary selection buffer is confusing, and clipboard managers' sync features were buggy in my experience.

I run LMDE and have no problem with it but would love to see a video on LMDE vs Linux Mint Ubuntu addition

Fedora is the best, because one doesn't leave windows to meet windows. It's user friendly enough for newcomers and it's highly customisable compared to default mint. Fedora is stable while implementing the newest technologies. Mint depends on debian, while fedora is developped by RHEL.

It's not a myth
Windows does just works.
It's why people still use Windows more than Linux. I've been trying to jump ship from Linux for 40 years, since Slackware on floppies on a 386. I try them all, Linux is never there on the desktop, and I always have to come right back to Windows... even in bloody 2025. Linux has had 40 years... and still it can't get resume from sleep right, it's video drivers right, it's software store right...

I used to work on Ubuntu LTS releases for the last 15 years but with 24.04 they messed something up badly, I tried to install it 3 times on relatively up-to-date hardware but there were so many random crashes... moved to Fedora (currently on 40 and 41) and no issues, I quite like it (except for the weird installer). Windows 11 on my gaming machine has also been rock solid I have to say.

Great video! For me the top 3 are Fedora, Mint (debian edition) and ElementaryOS, none of them gave me any issues (while updating and tweaking), but I guess that also the machine and hardware matters, one distro will work better and have compatibility based on intel/amd/nvidia etc. Looking forward for Linux on desktop scene as I think with Windows 11 f.ups and more polished desktop environments on linux beginners will see it more accessible. Keep the good work!

Zorin OS can ALSO be a great experience for new Linux users. But there is ONE THING you MUST do to fix what's wrong with Zorin right out of the box, and that's to install NEMO file manager over it's HORRIBLE default file manager. Once you do this, Zorin becomes a wonderful distro for new users from Windows. But I agree that I still like Mint better. However, Mint is heavy compared to Zorin, so I use Zorin on my older Surface Pro 7, and Mint on my much more powerful desktop computer. It's a great combo.

The first distro I ever tried in 2003 was Debian with WindowMaker. I came from Windows 98/2000/XP and had no clue. Then I tried Lindows (Linspire), it looked like Windows but it wasn't the same and you had to pay for things. When I discovered Ubuntu, I really started using Linux. My favorite distros so far are Arch Linux, Ubuntu and Fedora, but for anyone new to Linux I highly recommend to indeed start with Linux Mint. Especially if you come from Windows.

I think that if you take any of the bigger more polished Linux distribution like Ubuntu, Fedora or Mint, the experience will be very similar. You get good hardware support (due to the kernel), normally not need the terminal and get good software options for many use cases. Still as a gamer not all games work yet and if you care about this Windowx only game, you simply start Windows. Similarly if there is a piece of software, which only works on Windows, and you need it, you simply run Windows. With Steam we are almost there, but not quite. Similarly, for certain productivity software. And at that point it does not help one bit, that are one million Linux distributions to chose from.

I love Mint, but Windows absolutely just works. I've never had any driver issues with peripherals... ever.

Mint isn't the best distro, but it is the best INTRO to the Linux sphere. :)

Yeah, I like Linux, but the myth, that you don't need the terminal anymore is a lie. I used to mess around with SuSE 6.2 25 years ago and at that time you couldn't install a printer without editing some deamons and it's the same today. I've tested several distros like Mint, Pop! OS or Manjaro and you always need the terminal to install e.g. the HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dn correctly, otherwise it's not working. Linux does not just work out of the box. Windows does. That is my own experience.
