Kia EV3 review: This car SAVED ME from CRASHING!

Meet the all-new Kia EV3!

Following on from the successful launch of the Kia EV6 and EV9, it’s time for Mat to get his hands on Kia’s all-new mid-sized SUV. Unlike the EV6 & EV9, the EV3 comes with a pretty low price point, starting at just £33,000!

But does it offer enough to lure you away from competitors like the E-2008 & Volvo EX30? Let’s take a closer look…

In terms of the design, it’s most certainly a head-turner! It’s upright and quite square, with Kia’s distinctive vertical headlight design and plenty of glossy black trim. It may not be as intimidating as the impressive EV9, but it certainly impresses from the outside.

On the inside, it’s more of the same! There’s a set of digital dials as well as an intuitive infotainment screen on the centre of the dash, and the cabin is filled with soft touch and good quality materials. The seats may not be the most figure-hugging and supportive, but they’re still relatively comfortable.

The entry-level EV3 has a 58kWh battery, while all other editions are equipped with an 81kWh. Those with the larger battery have a claimed range of up to 375 miles, which is certainly more impressive than many of its key rivals!

The question is, would Mat choose the EV3 over the Carwow 2024 Car of the Year - the Volvo EX30? You’ll need to keep watching to see for yourself!

Been watching Carwow for years, and the pace of the review videos keep getting faster and faster. Slow it down Matt, this is not the reason we watch you. We like the detailed in depth videos which are well structured and not all over the place.

Not sure about this new review format, its a bit all over the place! Preferred the old ones tbh

I prefer the old video sequencing, it was literally the best on Youtube in terms of car reviews. There was absolutely no need to change it to this. Please reconsider.

I can see that you guys have changed the video format quite a bit. Besides the audio problem this video is very fast paste and all over the place. I understand that you do this due to the short attention span of the viewers but it makes the video really bad.
Go back to when you have clear stages of when you are in the car, outside the car, drive and summary. It’s a lot better. Especially if you are trying to sell these cars in your website.

the voice track is leaning towards the left channel... a tad annoying with headphones

Doing brake and acceleration tests in a muddy field with broken pot holes is some kinda ghetto car review with 200 subscribers.

Editing on this feels unusually frantic for the channel. Slow it down please. Actually, production overall feels incredibly shoddy.

Man, i was waiting for this specific review for long... but i was disapointed by the edit of the video, all over the place and in a rush

I've had mine 2 months. Average is at 4.1mi/kWh. Getting 340-350 miles of range at the moment. (GT Line S. No heat pump.)

I've had my EV3 for two weeks and I'm getting between 4.1 and 4.3 m/kwh, In January in the north of England. So I'm not sure what you did to get your figures so low. I don't believe my heat pump makes that much difference. Some of your other negative comments are about stuff the average EV3 buyer won't care about. My sons are 25 years old so I won't need to install baby seats, and 7.something to 60mph is fine by me. My boy racer days are well and truly over.

I test drove the Volvo, nice car, my wife preferred it to the EV3 but I couldn't live with the lack of physical buttons.

Keep in mind this electric monolith is still 100+ kilos lighter than the new M5

That driver's seat was leaning so far back when you tested the room in the back. Hardly a fair test, when you couldn't even drive it with the seat in that position. I sat in the back while the 6'2" driver drove us around, and I'm about the same height. I honestly don't know what you're talking about, there's plenty of knee and headroom. Anyway, I've just come back from a test drive and absolutely loved it. I was really surprised at how big it was, and as someone who hasn't driven an EV before, I can tell you that it's bloody quick compared to any ICE offering of a similar size. If you're used to blisteringly fast Teslas and such like, you might think it's slow, but it's way faster than I'm ever going to need. Yes, I'm in my late 60's, but I've had fast bikes and powerful saloons, so I know what performance is. This is the perfect blend of performance and cost of ownership. No stupid low profile tyres that cost a fortune, with rims that can easily get damaged by potholes. No crazy top insurance group.
This is physically a little larger than I need, but it's good enough to get me to part with my money.

5:35 - I agree with Mat on the heat pump only being available on the top-spec GT-Line S (and even then it’s still not standard - you’ll have to pay an extra £900 for it), especially considering that A) the exemption from the £40k> ‘luxury car’ surcharge for electric cars will come to an end in only a few month’s time - and the GT-Line S is £42k before options, making it liable for the surcharge for those registered on or after 1 Apr 2025, and B) sister company Hyundai offers a heat pump as standard on the smaller Inster across the range, even on the base ‘01’ specification.

If Hyundai can make a heat pump standard on its smallest EV, I see no reason why Kia can’t do the same here with the EV3.

All the EV3 reviews I've watched so far have been very positive. This one seems negative in so many ways. As previous comments have said it all seems a touch on the silly side and frantic. Carwow videos are normall better than this.
