NEW KIA EV3 DRIVEN : Volvo EX30's worst nightmare | Electrifying

The Kia EV3 is an all-electric ‘B-segment SUV’, which is industry speak for ‘a small-ish, SUV-ish hatchback.’ At 4.3-metres long, it’s a touch smaller than the Kia Niro EV, bigger than the Jeep Avenger and a very similar size to the VW ID.3 and Volvo EX30.  This is an important car for Kia because compact SUVs like this make up almost a third of all new cars sold in Europe and from our first look we think the EV3 is great all rounder that may well become the car to beat in its class.

Join Ginny as she takes the new Kia EV3 for a first drive in Korea. Has Kia built a winner? Let us know in the comments below.

EV owner 8 years now. Zero gas. Zero emissions. Zero oil changes. Minimal parts to break. Zero emissions tests. Minimal brake pad wear. Very minimal maintenance. Charge at home. Will always have an EV in my garage.

KIA is going to sell a lot of these, it ticks all the boxes for people who want a great looking, well made and practical EV.

While the European manufacturers are sucking their thumbs while wondering what to do about the future, the Koreans & Chinese have embraced the future and are charging ahead.

The next 10 years on our roads are going to look very different

I am real convert to these new Kia EVs despite the fact my EV9 being in the garage again for its second 12v battery failure .... I have been a Audi, BMW & Volvo driver traditionally but Kia have nailed the design and build quality on these and EV Tech (despite 12v problem) is efficient and easy to use. This looks like a great second EV option for our family 🙂especially compared to the Volvo price point.

Looks way superior to the EX30 - great review. The 4K video quality was superb.

thanks for going all the way to Seoul to review this car. I'm seriously considering it in Canada.

I think the bigger battery version will be the big seller. Going to be a hugely popular car both new and second hand. Looks great and is about the right size for a family car. This and the Hyundai Inster are going to be massive sellers in Europe and the UK

I tested the EX30 and immediately decided it wasn't for me but the EV3 looks like a definite option when I change from my BEV XC40. I have a test drive booked on 21/09 so cant wait to see what it looks, feels like and how it drives!
Another great review Ginny, thanks!

Very nice review, good to see reviewers like you prepared to travel to Korea to cover the latest cars, instead of sitting around waiting for it to reach UK. Looking on from NZ 🙂

I don't understand the obsession with 0-60 times, I find this one of the least important things to me when looking at newer cars. My current super old 2010 kia ceed (much in need of replacing but can't afford it) does 0-60 in about 11.6 seconds and I've rarely wished for it to be better so anything less than that in my mind is plenty enough as long as you're driving sensibly. Family cars really don't need to be able to do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, that's just bonkers to me. Faster charging would be nice on all these cars, would prefer 150kw minimum charging speed on all cars to keep charges under half an hour, on longer journeys this would also free up chargers quicker at busy times.

Pity. All models should have had the Heat Pump as standard. Especially here in Europe.

At last!..A real road test of the much hailed EV3 and Seoul looks a fun place to be. Having driven a Kia e-Niro since early 2019 I am interested to know how the EV3 rides and handles which you didn't say anything about in this video. They are expected to arrive here in France within a few months so looking forward to seeing more reviews of this car.

Booked in to take a look at this at my local Kia dealer in a couple of weeks. Could be my next EV if the lease deals are right in a few months time!

Thanks for the review. Glad you got straight to the key point - how it drives.
