Are you looking for a way to change your iTunes backup location in windows?

Well ,you are at the right place!

This video helps you to change iTunes backup location in Windows 10

Video Content:
0:00 - Intro
0:45 - Step 1: Find and Rename the Backup Location
3:16 - Step 2 : Transfer the File to the New Location
8:26 - Outro
If you have installed iTunes from your Web Browser, you have to
go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup

If you have installed from Microsoft Store, you have to go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\Apple\MobileSync\Backup

Command for changing the location

cmd /c mklink /J “OldLocationpath\Backup” “New Location”

We can do this in just 2 steps.

1st Step is to find and rename our Backup Location..

If you have installed itunes from your Web Browser, you have to go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup

If you have installed from Microsoft Store, you have to go to this Location:
C:\users\{USERNAME}\Apple\MobileSync\Backup

To find the Backup Location
Open ‘This PC’
Then the C Drive
And then Open Users
Choose the Username of your PC,
Open the Apple folder and then the Mobile Sync folder.
Open the backup folder.

Next, To see the space occupied,
Go back to the Mobile Sync folder,
Right click on the folder and Click ‘Properties’.
You’ll see the space occupied on the Properties Pop up Window
Once you find the backup location.

Next, rename the backup folder.
To rename the folder,
Go back to backup folder
Right click and choose ‘Rename’.

You can enter any name of your choice, but make sure the folder is not named ‘Backup’.

Once you do the First step,
Next, Move on to the 2nd step which is to Transfer the File to the New Location.

The new location can be on another Drive on your PC or an External Drive.

To transfer the file to the New location,
Open the Drive (which is your new location).
Now Create a New folder.
To create a folder,
Right click and select ‘new’ and then ‘folder’.

To make this as your new backup location
You need to create a link from the old location to the new location

To create the link from old location to new location
Go to the old location.
And Press shift and then right click.
Click on “Open Powershell Window”.
Then, type the following command:

cmd /c mklink /J “Old Location path \Backup” “New Location Path”.

Once you type the command, press Enter.

Now, you will see a command which shows that a junction has been created for your file.
As soon as this command appears,
You will see a new backup folder created.

This means whenever a new backup is taken on the itunes it’ll be automatically transferred to this new location here

To test that,
Move your old backup file to the new backup folder.
Open the backup folder.

Now move the old backup folder

Now go back and open the new backup folder
And then paste it there.

As soon as you paste the folder
You will see that the folder will be transferred to the new location.

This means that this folder will not occupy any space in the C Drive, so whatever backup added to this location will be automatically transferred to the new location. (callout)

So now we’ve successfully changed our iTunes Backup location.

So from now, if you take a new backup from your Apple device, your C Drive will no longer be occupied by iTunes.

Thanks for Watching!

I spent hours trying to reduce my iPhone memory to do a computer backup on a C drive that was not big enough. I even explored options to repartition my hard disk to increase C drive memory, which proved to be costly. This solved the problem in a surprisingly easy manner. Simple yet specific instructions were extremely useful. You only need to invest 10 minutes of your time. I wish I had found this video sooner! Thank you!

SIMPLY PRECIOUS! Thank you! Just another 2 questions: 1) Once we did this setting is made, all the future iPhone's backpas will be automatichally saved on the external drive? 2) how do I restore all content on iPhone from that backup which is now on the external drive? THANK YOU AGAIN!

I really want to thank you for making this so easy, I was reading tutorials online and it was not clicking for me, but watching you helped me get this figured out, I had to do some tweaking with the steps because I’m still running Windows 8.1, the main reason I needed to move the Apple files is because I’m trying to free up space to upgrade to 10. I can’t thank you enough, I was so happy it worked and how easy it was! Definitely subscribed to you now

Thank you!!! I have been frustrated with laptop storage for months. When I found out my APPLE DEVICES is consuming such large space and I thought there is nothing I can do about it. Luckily I see your tutorial and save a lot of space.

I was screwed last 7 days, my phone wouldn’t restore backup.

A simple thing that you require space twice the size of your backup for restoring is not mentioned anywhere by Apple.
As my C drive did not have enough empty space for restoring the iPhone i had to shift it to D driver and got my job done immediately.

Thanks for this easy and beautiful video.

One of the best explanations for ppl like me who will never get computers unless explained like a 6year old, a couple of questions that might be silly, 1) we can disconnect the external hard drive after the backup is done, and when we want ti back up again just need to reconnect it right?
2)when we need to restore our phone incase we lose it and get a new one, would the process be the same as before or are there any new steps?

Your video saved my day and 36gb on C Drive. Now all is blue and green. Before it was red with only 12gb left on C. Great advice, thank you so much.😀

I agree with the positive feedback provided earlier. However, it seems that the current procedure is directing both current and future backups to the E or external drive. To free up more disk space, it might be more effective to also move the old backup files to the E or external drive and configure future backups to be saved there as well. From what I observed towards the end, it appeared that old backup files on the C drive were being cut and pasted into a backup folder on the same drive, rather than being transferred to the external drive. If I’m mistaken, please correct me.
