Why don't European airlines have TVs?🤔

One other reason is airlines in Europe are more aggressive at keeping costs down to compete with railways, whereas outside the Northeast corridor, airlines don’t face any real competition from Amtrak.

Telly for short flights? I’m just praying my Ryanair seatbelt doesn’t fall apart after takeoff. Or that they wouldn’t charge me for buckling up.

What I find interesting is that when they use long-haul planes on short-haul flights, EU airlines will sometimes have the PTVs/entertainment inactive. I've wondered why that is. It's already there, so why not have it on?

for me saving 50 quid ish is much better than having a tiny screen in the back of a seat

Also flights in Europe compete heavily with trains, especially as bans on short haul flights are becoming increasingly common. Also, in europe, airlines are allowed to fly smaller jets with higher densities, whereas that is a restriction for mailine carriers in the US, so something like an E190 isnt really seen in thr US, but rathee a larger jet like a 737.

Why would you want a tv? Give me a phone holder.

Rynair charges less than 1/4 of the price of normal carriers here, while being on time and basically having the same non existing service. There was a time when there was a difference, but the carriers, not the customers made it all about price.

Why put a screen on the planes if most passengers will use their phones anyway? I’d rather have them cut down on weight end therefore the price

The thing I miss on AA IFE screens was the interactive map, especially the one with the virtual Heads Up Display Cockpit view. While you can get most of the same information on FlightRadar24 now, there was something about the data being "live" on the IFE screen that I miss (especially the reminder that a thin sheet of plexiglass and aluminum was the only thing between you and the really cold air outside at high altitudes).

Who needs a TV on a plane when you have a laptop +phone?

Southwest and I believe Alaska have IFE but it's accessed through your mobile devices which is honestly pretty nice cause it means you can hook up your bluetooth headphones or whatnot up to them

I've experienced flying with Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa. They were both great. Both have good flight attendants, comfortable seats and those TVs. Service is great too and this was all in economy class.

I've been on MANY short flights across US, the only flight(s) I have ever had a TV on were transatlantic

I'm sure most US air passengers would prefer to forgo the IFE screens and pay $30-$40 for a flight like we do across the pond

Years ago in Europe they used to show films on the tvs and have audio channels in the arm rests.

Idk I’m probably in the minority but having tvs on your flight at least for me just enhances the overall experience. I just flew delta and southwest and being on a brand new delta a321neo with the new tech just made things much more enjoyable. Plus from what I saw pretty much everyone was using the inflight tv over their phones so having tvs is definitely not a waste. I’m glad to see united investing in this unlike American

I prefer using my phone. Just download a podcast or two. Although, on long haul flights it’s very appreciated.

I’m so glad we’re at a good place with tech where inflight wifi is preferred to dvd release movies and tv re-runs.

More importantly, most people in Europe just get a laptop out

Much rather have a cheaper flight without any flairs than a laggy, greasy screen with minimal selection of low res movies that are constantly abrupted whenever the captain speaks.

So much more comfortable to watch on your own device.

You know that it’s true.
