I like it when Scott takes his gloves off and starts talking with an American accent.

I’m a rocker, through and through. Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia is full of bad ass bass lines, I knew I wasn’t crazy!

I love that approach - instead of dismissing the line as "not real", you embrace it as an opportunity to develop bass playing in a new and exciting direction. Kudos!

I remember when I first heard this song in my car's radio shortly before arriving at the shopping mall. People surely wondered why I was staying in the car for two more minutes shaking my head like crazy, lol
We bass players have to thank Dua Lipa (or her producer) for bringing back such great basslines in pop music with the complete Future Nostalgia album. Some of the best stuff since Bernard Edwards =)
Your analyzing was top, great video, thank you!

The fact that this bassline is programmed instead only makes it more impressive, and it is pretty freaking awesome already

1:42 the difference between a keen bassist vs a bass elitist. Really love Ian's passion for his craft. So infectious

Great video Scott’s evil twin! Here are my requests for the series:
1. Come Down by Anderson .Paak
2. Let’s Ascend by Nightmares on Wax
3. Like Sugar by Chaka Khan

Just want to say the addition of Ian to SBL is awesome. Great teacher, always clear about the subject and what he’s teaching. Great player too!

The reason why dua is my favourite pop artist today because of her funk/disco/pop basslines that made up her songs

Not only "Don't start now" but the whole Future Nostalgia has some amazing bass lines like the ones in Levitating, Cool, and Break My Heart. Don't start Now has caught our attention for good because it got on loop on the radio - at least here in Brazil - and for sure it kinda introduced to so many people how important it is to have a great bass line like this in any song

What I love about this channel is its endlessly broad bass appreciation - Ian's a big part of that. There is never any gate-keeping or judgement. All genres, styles and techniques can produce good bass.

Absolutely love your take on this "fake" bass track. The physical part of playing bass is only that - a part of it. If a guy with a computer and a music app were able to grab the attention of just about every bassist on the planet, then clearly he's worth listening to and learning from. His creativity is astounding, and it takes her album to a level that few albums go these days.

This dude is a fantastic teacher. I don't at all care about the track, but this dude's so engaging, I want to dig this song.

I first heard this song on Dua Lipa's Small Desk concert on NPR, and most of the song was a bass and drum machine, with another musician playing some guitar to fill out the sound. I was hooked. I liked it far better than the studio version, but that holds true for most of her music; I love the small concerts she's given with little accompaniment and very little synth mix and effects.
