True story: The Supreme Court declined to hear her case, citing that the astronauts were outside of their jurisdiction.

As an atheist, I'm with him: People need to lighten the hell up and let believers experience life as they wish to.

Just proof that despite one’s personal beliefs and views, one can still give respect and credit to those with different beliefs and views. That is an example the world today needs a lot more of.

I myself am not religious, but I agree with Neil 100% on this. If I were to see something that awe inspiring for the first time I would probably start reading the Bible too. Besides, it’s not like they were ordered by the state to do it, they read it on their own free will

Neil just earned one point of respect.

Considering Neil DeGrass Tyson’s own religious views, I’m surprised he said this.

It's because he's respectful. When he writes the year he writes BC and AD because, as he said, the church invented that calendar and they EARNED THAT. There's no need to make things un-religious just because. Credit where it's due.

He also uses BC and AD because the Church (Greg :) deserves the recognition for it's hard work.

Leaving the planet on Christmas Day and doing a couple of laps around the moon just to read the first ten verses of Genesis is the hardest thing anyone has ever done.

Their names were Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders. Such brave men, who risked their lives for discovery and scientific advancement.

Jim Lovell would later captain the Apollo 13 mission. When the Apollo program ended, he was the world’s most experienced astronaut, but despite flying two missions to the moon, he never got to stand on it.

I’m in shock that Neil has something positive to say about religion. Probably first and last time that happened!

Imagine practicing your right to freedom of religion as you're doing something that could very well end fatally and someone gets mad because you somehow infringed on their right to not practice religion 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's like hearing your teacher swear for the very first time 😂

I watched that broadcast live on a black and white TV set. I was 5 years old and remember my family intently watching the TV.

It was also the first time a human saw the far side of the moon. I remember staying up to watch the broadcast after midnight mass.

That is by far the smartest thing I've ever heard him say.
Bravo, Neil.
