Star Trek caring about origin of anything is stupid. We love it because we explore the unknowns. Space, the final frontier. There are things that already happened indenpendently everywhere before we knew them. The story should about encountering something new that we haven't met before and how we going forward, not about being human (face it, new star trek is always about humans first, not even Federation) centric and we involved in everyone origins.

Darmok is perfect example of this. Do we have anything with Darmok before? Do we involved? Do we care? No. What important is Federation met Darmok and the story is about how we going forward with them. Darmok doesn't even need to be something important in the future, heck they didn't even need to join Federation afterwards. Even then, it's still a good episode that dear to many ST fans.

If the current Star Trek TV series gave the franchise an STD.... I won't be surprised if the new Star Trek movie becomes the franchise's universal pandemic.

It's probably because advancing the story past TNG era would establish that point as the new normal, and nobody's had the balls to do that yet. I agree that looking backwards in time is getting stale, but the suits at the studio probably think it's safer to maintain the status quo, since spinoffs like Picard are obviously still viable. Maybe they don't wanna shut the door on that era until they're convinced it can't be milked anymore. And with such an iconic IP, what happens if they introduce new canon and it flops? They'd have to retcon it away, and we'd have to pretend it never really happened. But as a fan, I think it would be cool to finally move past TNG.

I do not care, not even a little bit. I just want a new movie because star trek rocks and always has, even the bad films (Star Trek 5: Final Frontier the search for god.. vomit) are better than anything star wars has put out in the last 10 years, and so it shall continue. It actually annoys me that people complain whenever a new star trek thing comes out because star trek fans love to shoot themselves in the foot, some of them b*tch and complain about it so much it makes you wonder if they would actually prefer that it had never been made in the first place... Discovery being a case in point. I have seen physical fights start up because of a Kelvin Universe discussion, , broken noses not even joking... it's sad, just enjoy the Star Trek.. be glad it's not the doing the metaphorical equivalent of throwing all it's' toys out the window like Star Wars has and did.

If bad robot has anything to do with it then it’s gonna be horrible, im so sick of garbage on the screen, I don’t watch tv shows unless they were made 15 years ago

I want the Seven of nine show. And more of lower decks and strange new world. I didn't care at all for Discovery. Picard s1 was a sorta fan service, s2 was weird, s3 was major fan service.
I think the problem is that it is hard to do a show at a time that the other shows took place at. I don't think going too far into the future with the whole time travel stuff would be a good idea either, maybe as a comedy show where they keep accidentally causing historical events. The whole 'go back in time to stop bad guy' has been done, a lot.
And we already have star wars to be dystopian gritty, trek is supposed to be 'we're better than that'

An Enterprise movie would be more beneficial and more relevant.😊 How could the movie be an origin the Kelvin timeline when it didn't exist then?

I think it has to do with demographics. They have to market to the age group that has disposable income. They're trying to capture a little of both the original and the Next Generation audience. By creating a hybrid they increase the shelf space. You're looking for that sweet spot in the consumers wallet.
Hopefully it's not hokey like Star Wars.

Paramount literally hired Mcdonalds writers to make New Trek for them its sad. They cant make anything new they just dirty the legacy of who came before them

Look at SNW they steal classic characters. Make them annoying and throw then onto one ship. A Captain Pike who is useless without Una. Uhura, spock and kirks brother are all the ships officers, nurse chapel is here too. Oh and guess who else. Khans grandaughter

Look I'm not one of those new Star Trek haters but I am so sick and tired of Kirk and Spock TNG prequels if they're going to do a prequel how about we do one before TNG if we must do prequels. Now there's a timeline that hasn't been explored. Don't get me wrong I love strange new worlds I think it's a really good show but we don't need any more than that.

It’s still wagon trails to the stars. Exploring. But frankly, I just want a tight script and good acting.

Between all the prequels and 'woke' BS, Star Trek has been ruined and is not worth watching
