if you have the A7III you also have the NEUTRAL Creative style and thats what i use for that beast!

It's all a learning curve. I've shot in all sorts of color profiles for paid jobs. Clients can't tell the difference. This year I plan on shooting all events with just creative styles.

I accidentally found out how good the creative styles were when I bought the A9 a few years ago because it has no picture profiles. First I was disappointed and then immediately blown away with how much better my footage looked using the creative styles built-in. Now that you can color with 10-bit i’ve never been so impressed by anything I have put out before.

Awesome. I've really never played around with those, but the more videos I do, the more I realize that efficiency is the key, not slaving over painstaking and time-consuming "right" ways to do things. I'm literally in the middle of grinding out a Premiere Pro export that takes forever because of a color correction plugin I use, and I've been thinking hard about more efficient ways to correct/grade my footage. This definitely adds some fuel to that fire.

for the 'missed sharpness range settings' - this only appears when shooting photos (A7siii displays different settings depending on if in photo/video mode) so for video is doesn't matter. Still learning this monsters quirks!

Your are absolutely right! On top of that, if you want some artificial dynamic range, you can turn on DRO. I turn mine on to level 3, and looks great!

Creative style is great! I've never been one to play around with picture profiles too much. More work than its worth alot of the time. Thanks for sharing Chris!

Creative Styles are pretty good for beginners, i tried them myself long time ago and i found that in many situations they will be more then enough. I think it depends on what kind of client you will be working it, if they are demanding and paying well then obviously you should go with hlg2, 3 or maybe even sl2. But if you are working with someone who doesn't care and he just needs work done as fast as possible then using Neutral for example will do 90% of the job and maybe 10% tweaking while video editing.

Yes the colors look good on the A7SIII without a Picture Profile and Sony's Creative Style feature is fun to play with. However, it is limited to 8 bit color. If one were to want to use the full capabilities of the A7SIII such as 10 bit color, it is required that they shoot in a Picture Profile that utilizes the 10 bit color such as SLOG3 or HLG3. This can be super important when it comes to uploading an HDR video to YouTube for example.
