Is it possible to import just a selection of a wav file to a multitrack session? Like opening the wav, set in and put point and then import just this selection to a mutitrack?

Does anyone know the setting to turn back on so it automatically opens the file in the main viewing tab?
I randomly clicked on something while opening a file thus disabling a setting that auto opened the file. It no longer automatically shows the audio in the file in the main section. I must double click on the file.
