A Brightline train collided with a truck at an intersection in Melbourne on Friday afternoon, leaving two dead, officials said. It is at the exact same location where a man was killed and three injured when their SUV struck a passing train. Authorities said both drivers were attempting to outrun the train and drove between the crossing arms. #brightlinetrain

The poor train driver.
People don't understand the trauma it gives them to deal with such stupidity.

In both cases the drivers made the conscious decision to not only break the law but to jeopardize the lives of their passengers. To be a driver you have a lot of responsibility to your passengers but also to the general public.

Female witness: “It’s scary”

No it’s not. The trains aren’t going wild and killing innocent people. It’s really easy to avoid being hit by a train. Stay off the tracks. Pretty easy to avoid, am I right?

52 and 54 is an age where you are supposed to be able to put others first. I feel sorry for the rail employees.

0:25 "both cars went around the crossing arms right into the path of the train"

Case closed.

The poor engineers, hope they have great support.

It is the easiest thing in the world to not get hit by a train

Not Brightline's fault. Those dummies broke the law.

Props to that fella for saying what we are all thinking. Stupidity is designed to hurt. Evolution can only be ignored so many times.

The title of this video sounds like it was the trains fault but it should be something like ‘drivers ignore train crossings’

The guy in the red shirt said it best "Don't be dumb"

Up here my way in Mid Atlantic area we had a jackass accelerate to over 75mph to try and beat the train arms. It's a massive 4 track crossing that is real rough and elevated. He lost control going over the tracks and hit another vehicle head on and killed the people in other vehicle. Just to beat the train. Driver had no license or insurance. There's an on ramp to a highway 1/8 mile down the road to avoid the trains yet he decided to ruin people's lives forever.
I wish people could be told "don't be stupid" and actually not be stupid.

People honestly forget that feeling of getting a driver's license for the first time and promising that they will follow the rules.

If you know where this intersection is in Melbourne, you'll know exactly why this happened. These are the same group of people that continually break the rules. They feel following laws like stopping at RR crossings is oppression. It's only the worst part of town because they choose to make it that way

"Don't be dumb". Come on man, it's Florida. In both cases the train was right on top of them and they still drove forward.

As someone from outside the US, it is great to see the support for Brightline.
You folks are growing passenger rail at last, don't let anyone sabotage the efforts!

Growing up, gates at tracks often malfunctioned, but my parents wouldn't think of going around a gate in our station wagon. They also never parked in handicap spaces or fire lanes. Society is sick.

My heart goes out to those injured by these drivers' actions, and to the engineers who had to witness this.

If you google *deadliest train in America*, Brightline has been awarded that trophy since 2019 when it started down south. The number of incidents has risen 28% since Brightline started on the FEC track. Not one incident has been the fault of Brightline, nor the signal mechanism. The mayor of Melbourne is saying “We need an awareness campaign, they need to install more safety measures.” My question is why are they forcing this company, and I’m sure tax payers to spend money to accommodate idiot drivers, that clearly lack common sense ? They couldn’t wait, 30 seconds !! Unbelievable !!

Ages 54 and 52 are not old nor elderly. I have never ever gone around a railway arm, ever. These ages are expected to experienced drivers not elderly. It's a shame this happens over and over again. At some point, there has to be accountability (like the representative said) and not tempt fate.
