I haven't read the first book, but this makes me want to pick it up right away. I cried when I first watched this video because I had depression for 2 years and I lied about it through my teeth. Looking back on it now, those years are just a blur to me. It finally took my friends to tell the school counselor that they were concerned for me to let my mom know about how depressed I was. I was stuck in a lie I couldn't get caught telling but I'm glad I did. The last line just got me so hard, as I thought that I was doing everyone a favor by telling them I was okay. Anyone struggling with mental health, just know that you are not a burden and you do deserve to be loved.

Honestly my jaw dropped when you read "the third kind of lie is the kind you CAN'T get caught telling". The implications this has for April May and the way the world (and her loved ones) see her are... intense. I can't wait to see where you go with this.

And personally, I think this is an excellent chapter. It makes you want MORE, which is exactly what a first chapter should do!

Although I'd argue there's a fourth kind of lie - the kind you DO want to get caught telling, but something is stopping you from telling the truth yourself so you need somebody else to do it for you

Wow... This hit me hard. "The lie you can't get caught telling" is something I felt I was alone in. It is nice to know that, at least in some form, there is someone able to articulate the feeling of keeping that lie.
