This tutorial will teach you when to change nibs on your drawing tablet. I'll also share some tips for preventing excessive nib wear so you don't have to change nibs as often. These tips apply to Wacom tablets and other brands as well.

I must give lots of thanks to my first ever maths teacher in Italy, she taught me how to hold properly the pencil and to always have a light touch with it when drawing or writing since day 1 (now I'm 23 btw).
I used for 10 years my first wacom intuos tablet without changing the very same nib that came with the stylus, and now I have a cintiq that has the nib still good as new.

(Italian text below)
Grazie maestra Aida!!
Se un giorno la rivedrò le regalerò un disegno per ringraziarla anche per avermi regalato l'amore per l'arte!!

My tip had been in use for about two years and was starting to disintegrate. Nail clippers totally worked to remove it. I wouldn't have thought of that, so thanks for the tip! (Pun unintended.)

The rougher the texture sheet, the quicker the nib will go. Also, sensitive pressure calibration def helps like you mentioned! I use a smooth texture sheet on my Intuos Pro, it still feels like paper but smoother!

I am SO GLAD I clicked on this video. I was looking to see how to remove the nib from the pen and figure out which one I needed to buy and you just showed me that my tablet has a secret pouch that I never even realized was there so thank you for being that super hero! Now I don't have to buy any!

I was searching for ways to help my pen because I thought it wore down as a result of me using it wrong. And I just found the nibs in the original box! Thank you so much. Saved me a lot of confusion and guilt haha. And probably money because I was ready to buy a new pen

Apparently the intuos4 tablets wear nibs down extremely fast because Wacom gave it a really rough surface. So, if you have or get that tablet, maybe try taping a sheet of smooth bristol paper to it? Don't know if that would actually help.

I've had an intuos5 for like 7-8 years now, and have only had to change the nib a few times. I think learning to draw with my whole arm, as well as learning to draw with dip pens and brushes, helped teach me how to draw with a really light touch. I never come anywhere near pressing down with the maximum pressure these pens are designed to take. If you can do that, your nibs will last a long time, and you hopefully won't suffer any fatigue or pain with your wrist and fingers.

Luckily I've been able to get my nibs to last a insanely long time. For one I made sure to adjust the pen settings like you said. Then I took a little time to pick the right nib for what I was doing at any given time. And lastly there are a few occasions its just as easy to use a mouse instead of breaking out the tablet.

When I used a Bamboo splash for approximately 4 years, I only changed the nib once. I bought some plastic wire that is used for cutting grass, which is kinda like buying nibs in bulk that you cut yourself. Weirdly It NEVER wore down, ever, so I still have a literal spool of plastic grass cutting wire just chilling in my closet, for the past decade. I use a huion tablet now, waiting for the normal nib to need changing, hasn't yet. Guess I'm lucky with nibs.

I completely forgot where I put mine nibs years ago when I first thought about drawing hobby. I would never even thought about searching inside tablet before watching this video.

A few years ago I noticed my tablet (Intuos 3) was all scratched up and made a scratching sound when I used the pen. Duh, I didn't even know I was ruining the surface. So, I didn't know how to change the nib and went to YouTube. A girl had put up a video about using trimmer line as it was the perfect material and fit. I bought some and it worked! Of course, I had already sent off for some expensive replacement nibs. I just now noticed my nib is down below where I can grab it. My husband suggested I push a razor blade into the side of the nib and pull up. It worked! I use my tablet almost every day and it works great even all scratched up.

Great video. I would love to see you cover something like options for an artist glove to use with your tablet monitor sometime in the future.

Thank you for this video! I have been using my tablet since 2010 and this is only the second time I have had to change a nib. I knew where they were (in the pen holder) but I had no idea that little metal ring inside of the pen holder was actually mini tweezers to remove the nib! I learned something new! Ha ha! Had it not been for your video, I may have never known this! Thank you!

You can call me dumb all you want! This not only taught me how to change the nib, but it also taught me that the nibs wear down, which I didn't even know that they could do that 🥲🥲😫

Edit: If you don't have the tool that pulls it out (I threw mine away not knowing that what it was for) you can use tweezers/clippers and slide it out from the front and just put a new one in)
