Avocado Hack

This is not a safe hack!

Washing does not ensure the complete removal of all pathogens, so washing before doesn't make it safe to store in water. Not to mention, other sources of bacteria in your home and fridge that could get into the water as well. Not only could you be increasing the amount of surface bacteria, but this could cause it to infiltrate into the meat of the avocado as well. Not to mention, transferring potentially harmful bacteria to all of the avocados stored in the water as well.

i just find it so strange that people think putting it in water is more effective, when has making something wet (not including oil, syrup, or brine) ever increased it's shelf life?

Hey, Sane Food Lady, could you demonstrate how to wash other produce so that they're reasonably clean without getting all ocd w/ special cleaners or "hacks?"

You can freeze them, no need to increase your risks. Google it.

Yo prof, could you please do a video on what is okay and what is not okay to conserve in water in the fridge? I never do it, but I have been seeing a lot of videos lately on it, got me curious. I'm too lazy to do the research right now, but I'm sure it could be a nice video idea for you <3 cheerz

I hope people report that video. Misinformation is dangerous especially with food and health.

Is it the same for lemons? I feel like I see that a lot.

Just my 2 cents worth . . . I spray all of my produce with vinegar, let it sit in the sink for a few minutes and then fill the sink with water 💦. I let the produce rehydrate for 5 minutes or so and then squirt in some 7th Generation dishwashing soap 🧼 and swirl that around. Let that sit for a few minutes and then drain, rinse 🚿 and let dry. I’ve done this for about a decade with good results. Food 🍱 lasts longer, especially things like strawberries 🍓. The vinegar rinses off and nothing has a residual vinegar taste. I’m eager to hear feedback. But try it first
